Putting a stock radio back in the dash?

I took my aftermarket cd player out of the dash and now want to install the stock radio/cd player back into it. The stock cd player has the pocket attached as well as the two metal frame/bracket pieces on the sides.

I searched the the interior forum but couldnt find anything specific. Any idea how to accomplish this? In one of the threads..i found some description by Civicnation which goes as follows:

"remove the glove box. remove the driver side kickpanel, and remove the centre piece (where the cigarette lighter plugs in)

then look at the climate control console from underneath (where the cigarette lighter was) and look for 2 bolts that attach the climate control console to the dashboard. once u get those off it will slide forward. disconnect all the harnesses and it comes right out."

Are these the only steps involved...those metal brackets have around 3-4 bolts attached to them which need to be secured on the inside. I guess the stock radio setup needs to come from behind and then the whole HVAC unit will be installed.

Looking for some help...and its a 99 civic.

you dont need to remove the kick panel, but rather the panel thats covering the steering column. By removing this it will give you access to the center console screws.
From what I remember it was only 2 screws that need to be removed. Just take it apart, keep your screws seperate and you'll be able to figure it out.

when i reinstalled my stock radio i didn't put all the screws in... people dont' usually steal stock radios...

i just pushed it into place and it sorta clicked in and I was good to go...

but yeah if you want to put ALL the screws back in you'll have to remove the centre console cover (where the cig lighter thing is) as well as drop the glove box to get to the side...

really one screw is enough to hold any would be theif from getting your stock radio...

ok did this finally and learned a couple of things while doing this. the oem radio/cd player with its pocket attached can slide through the opening of the dash but if you do it this way....you cant screw it in for it to be secure. i like things secure so i (with a bit of help from rajiv...thanks) did this last night. in case you are wondering why it wont be secure this way....cuz there are two metal brackets that have to be screwed on each side of the stereo itself....with these brackets installed...the deck wont slide right inside.....hence this diy

1. Open the glove box. two screws on each end at the bottom.

2. Open the panel under the steering column...not the cover that is around the steering wheel itself but the piece under it. this is the piece that also has the fuse info. there are four screws to be taken out...two on each side...top and bottom side. gently pull it towards you...then unplug the harness and move it out of the way.

3. Remove the piece where the 12v socket or the lighter is...two screws right in the front and one on each side (the ones on the side are easily accessible once you have done steps 1 and 2. gently pull this piece towards you.....then sneak your hand in there and unplug the harness for the lighter/socket.

4. gently pull the centre hvac trim piece outside...it is mounted with springs clips etc. (no screws or bolts) unplug the harnesses.

5. slide the deck and its attached pocket through the opening and then screw those two brackets on the side....the brackets will be held with two screws on each side. at first...they may not line up or you will see only one hole lining up...but ultimately....both holes line up. the brackets are the same for oem cassette players, cd players or radios. once screwed...it will be flush and will feel tight and fit...thats what you want.

6. slide the whole assembly back into the opening...plug the harnesses...gently push the front back into teh opening...it will clip right in and u will hear a clip sound.

7. now look through the opening of the 12v socket area...those two metal brackets that you installed on the side of the radio now need to be screwed from the bottom up with the metal frame piece from the inside...they line up perfectly. the screw goes upward.....one on each side....

8. put the glove box cover, driver side piece and the centre lighter piece back in its place.

9. check everything for functionality..radio, hvac controls...power mirrors..fog switches etc. (this can be done just before you put each piece back)
