painting stuff

today i painted my kick panel covers and shift ****

i sanded down the shift **** until there was no more texture to it, coated it with 2 coats of paint and 4 coats of clear coat.. i dunno if its just the way i spray, but the clear coat isnt too shiny. can anyone help me out as to why? do i have to wax it?

when i painted my kick panels i did the same thing, but 3 coats of paint instead to try and get a better shine. but if anything, they arent half as good. they still have great color to them, but i was hoping for ultra gloss

i used cdn tire exact match (gunmetal/platinum color) and motormaster clear coat

somebody suggested this, but for some reason, it did not come out as predicted. ive read that on cars they sand each layer of clear coat with 1500 + grit... should i try this on my coat and spray again?

any suggestions please..

When I used universal black it came out really glossy with 2 layers of clear coat. But when I used arctic silver with 3 layers of clear coat it didnt come out SUPER GLOSSY. I think it is just the colors you choose. Some are better for the glossy look then others.

Read this for info on painting

I learnt so much from this site.

I know its for motorbikes, but it applies to most all painting...

http://www.thegsresources.com/garage/gs_repaint.htm

After painting, you can indeed still sand it with really fine paper (wet) and also use products like:
(1) 3M Perfect-It II Paste Rubbing Compound - Fine Cut, Part #051131, #39002

(1) 3M Perfect-It Swirl Mark Remover, Part # 051131, #39009

(1) 3M One-Step Finish Restorer/Wax or Meguiar's Gold Class Polish/Wax

I repainted my motorbike myself, and it came out amazing. It takes a long time to paint things so that they look nice, and you have to spend some $$$ for things like Swirl Mark Remover and Paste Rubbing Compound - Fine Cut, but they make painted surfaces mirror like shiny.

just my 2 cents.

about the ****: yea, i was testing the paint color
and i kinda liked it, so i finished it off
ill post some pics.. gimme a bit

i dont mind how it came out
i think it might also have something to do with
the original texture still being there
that fake vinyl texture if you know what im speaking of

is that stuff you mentioned permenant? the swirl remover and all of that? i was going to get that for my cars exterior
a rubbing compound and megs gold class wax

im trying to find out how to make it glossy cause i plan on painting the shift console back to the ebrake console, the peice surrounding the gauges, vents, interior door handle covers, etc. etc. all this color and was hoping for a nicer finish.

im gonna cut the bottom bit off when i get my short shifter in
that is if i even use the shifter... but its sooo comfy!!

the panels actually dont look that different, but they are if you compare them side by side

i really want to either cut out a hole in the panels and fit the grills from the speakers in the hole OR take a qtip or something and paint the back peices of the panel electron blue or something..

update:

today i went out and bought meguiars gold wax, mothers sealer and glazer, and turtle wax heavy duty compound

the turtle wax stuff didnt really seem to work all that well, and i was unimpressed with it. but for $3, it didnt hurt me too much

i sanded the stuff down with 2000 grit, compound, wax, then sealer. great stuff, looks a bit better. my shift **** is much better, the grills -- because of the texture -- didnt change much, but are still real nice

cant wait to pull out the flat plastic pieces and do them, should look awesome
