Pager Alarm questions
hey I was wondering if anybody ever heard of a company named Ultra Start, I've never heard of them personally as I own a Compustar myself on my civic, however I might be selling her soon and I'm thinking of what alarm to get for the new vehicle.
I'm not going to get no Viper/Clifford alarms since they don't support manual cars, but I heard they are available now, but Ultra Start has it for manual cars as well. So I'm just wondering if anybody has any experience with Ultra Start otherwise I'm going to stick with my Compustar.
by the way, anybody have Boomerang2?? if you do pm me, I'd like some more info in regards to this. Since other shops charge differently for install. but I'm also leaning towards getting this as well, but from my understanding, Boomerang1 is already on the vehicle.
thanks guys.

I have installed many Ultastarts before, I used to carry the line last year but dropped it as there were too many stupid glitches with it. The shock sensor is built into the brain so you don't have a lot of control with it so you get a lot of false alarms. If your battery dies in your car the whole thing resets and you have to reprogram the brain again and that could be a pain in the ***. The boomerang 2 is an outdated system as it only works off of cell towers yes they are the original vehicle tracking system but there are many companies out there now that track you with cell towers and with sattelite.which is a lot more accurate than the boom 2. I think the best bet would be a viper and yes it does work on standard cars. The compustar is a good unit but not F.C.C approved so it is only a matter of time before their operating frequecy gets shut down and anyone who owns one will be S.O.L.

sorry Si Veloz, i always thought they didn't support manual or was it just because places like futureshop, best buy don't do it due to liability issues. which could've probably hindered my comment.
anyways, what other systems are they available in terms of vehcile monitoring would you recommend selective sound.
and viper huh, hmm..perhaps maybe i will go with viper. but my compustar has been great nevertheless,
i guess i'll look into this more deeply within the weeks.

Hello Nautica_t
Both Viper and Compustar are very decemt systems to look at. If you are purchasing your car towards mid-summer, you may want to keep an eye out for the new Clifford two-ways coming out at that time. They are abosolutely amazing, I saw a preview of them in Las Vegas when I was at C.E.S ( Consumer Electronic Show ) and all I can say is that Clifford will revolutionising the two-way security market!!
In my opinion, stay away from Ultra Start, Selective Sound is correct when they say there are too many stupid glitches with them. They do have some uniques products out or coming out, but the problems are there and can be avoided if you stay with Viper/Compustar or Clifford.

I believe viper's arent designed to work with manual transmissions but they can be installed to work. I think your right about it being a liability thing with futureshop etc.
If it was me id get the computar 9000 thats out now or if your not in a rush wait for the new clifford to come out this summer. Viper/Clifford are awesome alarms and are very simple to use and program but fall short with pager range compared to the compustar. Either alarm will be a good choice though.

well here's what is going on. Compustar has a wire that is hooked up to the brake wire so when you brake you are sending a frequecy that interferes with the ham radio operators so what they are proposing is to send back their frequeny which will interfere with the compustar remote so what the F.C.C. can do is make compustar change their frequency alltogether.

what do you mean vipers dont support manual cars?

they will just have compustar stop making alarms within an unregulated frequency. they cant shut down what you have. fcc would have to track you down within the proximity that your alarms frequency transmits. then they could tell you to do whatever, remove your alarm?
doubt that would ever happen. im considering going with a compustar because of there reputation. also looking at autopage.

I have an auto-start on pager/alarm on my civic and it works well. I had some initial problems but that was just bad installation...i've had it just over a year now..and no real problems.
And yes, it's a manual
