Question Stock alarm VS pager alarm

hey guys, i just got my 2003 SiR (used) and thinking of installing a pager alarm on it, but it costs around $500-$600 to get a good set. I'm wondering if the stock alarm does the job good OR i really need a new alarm system????????

pager alarms are good if you tend to live/work/park/etc near your car, since they'll tell you if someone or something happens to your car.

if you're not close to it, then it's of no use. otherwise, as everyone knows, an alarm (1-way or 2-way), is only as good as its installation.

My stock alarm does what I need it to do...it wards off the inexperienced and kids...

The way I see it though is that if anyone wants something I have bad enough no alarm is going to be a detterent...

just my opinion.

true, they will just show up with a tow truck.....but an alarm, either factory or aftermarket is a essential, stop most thieves who are looking at civics...

true... an inexperience person would just have to break your windows or something and just rip whatever they can (if they do intend to steal your stuff and ignore your stock alarm)... on the other hand, if a professional wants to steal something, whatever alarm you have, it makes no difference....

i just park in more visible spot to me or public... and at home, i park in the garage....

If your gonna keep the stock alarm then at least have a reputable shop install an aftermarket shock sensor, Ive seen it done on factory lexus and other factory alarm systems. It works pretty well.

If I were u, id play it safe and upgrade to a pager alarm. Jeff at audio heaven has some really good prices. You have a really commonly stolen car so i would want it to be as safe as can be.

thanks guys for the good advice....

v8hunter03, i don't think i'll crazily mod. it, but the previous owner got a panasonic deck on, and i hate taking it with me every time.......so that's why the pager alarm idea brought up, and i'm not sure the there's stock alarm in the car or just keyless entry.......

also, i just ask the guy from honda dealer, he said honda would never recommen remote starter, he said it may void the warrantee of the engine or something...... tough call man!!!

it shouldn't void the warrenty ifinstalled by a professional... if your not gonna mod it... its up to you.. if you wanna feel comfrotable about leaving your car go for it.. but i wouldn't spend the money

pager alarms are pretty nice, but whatever u do...don't get the proximity sensor...those damn things go off when a plane fly's over my car!.....and it goes off at least 20 times a day....lol...i spent like 600 on a viper alarm and proximity sensor...and i don't even activate it anymore since the bugger keeps going off.....lol

Another Londoner, also with an '03 Sir? Dude, where you at?

Anyhow, like everyone else said, no matter how good the alarm, if someone wants your car bad enough, all they need is a flatbed. That being said, though, I still have a Compustar system in my car I had put in my the folks at Lockdown in Scarborough, and as far as a deterrant goes, it's a pretty damn good system, and worth the peace of mind.

I'd say the 02-04 SIRs are the least stolen Civics. Not too many EPs out there. Its harder for thieves to sell parts of from EPs cause they aren't so common like the 99-00 SIRs.

By the way 02-04 SIRs never came with a stock alarm, instead they came with an imobalizer (sp?).

even a stupid blinkly LED light will do.

if you speak to dealership mechanics.. they will tell you aftermarket alarms generally suck.

i have an after market alarm, it does it's job. it's cuts the engine if the alarm has gone off until i reset it, i can unlock/lock my doors with a remote, and i can make my car make noises when people are around it for the hell of it.

oh, it secures my car cause of the LED. if you're looking at stealing from a civic, why bother with the hassle of the alarm. hit up the civic next to it.
