Question dead speedo

hey guys it's my first time posting here (I'm from the Toronto Prelude Club).....my gf owns a '90 Si and yesterday her CEL came on and the speedo stopped working. I had a quick look and everything looked in place....she was low in oil, so I topped it up..... the CEL didn't light up for me, but she said it happens after driving for a while....but the speedo is still dead.

anyone know what the prob could be?

Vehicle Speed Sensor, located on the tranny... AKA: VSS

the speedo cable probably popped out, maybe your missing the clip to hold it in. An unoperating speedo will definitely set the engine light to go off. Locate the cable on the tranny and try pushing it in and hopefully find a clip to hold it in place, but sometimes it will stay in without the clip

Ya, the car senses load, but no speed... this is enough to trigger a CEL. Some 4th gen lover may come around and tell you exactly how to run the OBD0 diagnostic to get a code out of the ECU, so you know for sure... but I'd say mine is a pretty fair guess based on the info provided. Wait for My Blue Si, nautica_t, Silver_CRXSi, dopey, dented DX... or some other 4th gen owner to come whoring through this thread.
