Question a couple simple problems

so i have an aftermarket deck and decided to put into my 1998 prelude.

i go to future shop to buy a harness, dude gave me the one for 86-98 hondas.

so i go home and wire it up. i did notice tho that the harness has 1 or 2 less metal prongs than the back of the stock deck.

so i put it in my car. everything's swell except:

1) sometimes, maybe about once a week... the head unit would just shut off and reset itself. so i lose all my presets wat not, but i cannot duplicate it. it just 'sometimes happens.

is it a wiring problem? is it the rite harness i'm using? i'm 99% sure everything is wired properly although there was 1 or 2 that was left unwired. or is there something fucked up with the unit?

2) on certain AM dials (eg. fan 590) i get really annoying static/ crackling noise from my right speaker. this doesn't happen with a CD nor FM stations only certain AM stations. any idea?

thanks for reading

1) your constant power wire connection is shoddy... I'm guessing you used something OTHER than solder

2) hmmm.... AM is not broadcast in stereo, so it must be a wiring issue, but if it doesn't happen with CD and FM, I wouldn't touch it - who listens to AM anyways, I thought that was for old ladies to listen to talk radio... if I wanted talk, I'd brink a yappy girlfriend along.

sounds like a loose connection, if it was a wiring harness problem you woulnd't get your deck to come on at all

how did you connect your wires on the deck? did you crimp cap? solder? twist?

hm. actually i had this same problem in my old car.. but it actually STAYED ON when i turned my car off??! so i thought it was wiring ( i didn't do them on my old car).

now it does the shut off- reset business on my new car.

i twisted wires. i ensured i did them tight as a bitch though - i yanked on both ends without them coming undone before taping them up. is it possible the loose connection is at the UNIT END of the wiring as opposed to where i did the twist connections?

anyone wanna help me rewire? or teach me how to solder?

i think AM is much more useful than FM... Fan 590 and 680 i can't drive without.... need those scores and traffic reports u know!

thanks

Definitely a loose connection because it used to happen to friend's car and we just had to reconnect the 12v wires. Turns out they would disconnect from each other because they we're twisted properly. Make sure to connect them together tight before you tape it up.
