Thumbs down OMG simple green + me = problems...AGAIN!

wtf!? ok i cleaned my engine bay again because last time i missed certain spots so i cleaned them and it looked like crap. i covered everything again this time, even my alternator too! ok but i may have forgotten to cover the plugs near the battery and the plug on the IM. i didn't clean that part that much anyways but something went wrong.

i start the car praying that i wouldn't have any problems again and this time everything seemed good. im driving onto the streets now and no signs of problems this time. about 5 mins when i hit 70km/h my speedo starts jumping, as i hit the off ramp to the highway it dies and completely stays at zero. i was like oh man WTF did i do this time?! as soon as i pull onto the highway my CEL comes on. now im thinking, ok it can't be the alternator again, wtf could it possibly be? i come home and park the car in my garage. shut it off, and took a look at the chip at the back of the speedo cuz last time i fried it and that's why it wasn't working but there were no signs of any burns marks. i turn the car back on and the CEL is now gone but it'll probably come back on once i start driving the car on the street. the speedo still doesn't work so could i have fried a sensor or something?

honestly im never cleaning my engine bay EVER again by myself. this is causing me too many head aches. the car drives perfectly fine though, i check all my lights to see if i blew any because if anybody remembers, last time i blew ALL my lights, but this time everything is ok. my wipers weren't going super fast, i could hit my high beams without them blowing. so i don't think it has anything to do with my alternator this time. i think it's some kind of sensor i messed up.

check the VSS on the tranny, could be a bad connection, and if the speedo is at 0 you will throw a code after awhile of driving

VSS is on your tranny, it sends pulses to the speedo to tell what speed you are going

if you look down the engine bay, on top the tranny, you should see a black unit sticking up with 2 wires coming off it, that is your VSS, take the plug out and put some dielectric grease on it, and spray the contacts witj WD40 to displace any water...

if that doesn't work look in the helms for the test proceedure for the VSS

Matt isn't the VSS located near the Final Drive? at the top close to the side the axles are on.. (basically directly below the intake pipe (on the transmission)

Heres a tip...

Wait till your engine bay is dry before you go driving around

lol no i used a hose, i thought i gave it enough time to dry. i washed the engine bay first, then gave the whole car a wash, then interior. by the time i was done it was getting dark outside but i thought everything was dry.

Here's how I would do it.

Spray with engine cleaner
Let sit for 5 min
Lightly rinse off
Wipe down with an old t-shirt or rag.

the speedo works for 3kms when the car is off for a while. took it for a drive today and thought everything was ok until the CEL came on again and the speedo stopped working. i haven't checked any sensors yet though, this time im gunna bring the car straight to my mechanic tomorrow. haha

all i use to clean my engine bay is a damp towel and it works wonders. I mean it doesn't get it spotless but i've never had any problems like you guys have.
I'd even try using some citrus cleaner. Just spray some on (just a little bit at a time) and wipe it off with a paper towel or something.
Water under the hood = potential problems....no matter how much you cover up and protect.
