Comparing Alarms

What pager/starter/alarm do you guys think is best? I've had powerlink and it did the job, however the ring wasn't loud enough to wake my *** up when I . I like the compustar but my friend told me it's not reliable, his range always changes on him plus their is no vibrate feature, but I like it cause it rings very loud, let me know what you think

I've had my compustar for 2 years now. I love it.

As for the range.... it all depends where the antena is located, and what is in the area that might interfere with the reception.....ie....power wires overhaed/in the area.....microwave ovens.....garage door openers.....cordless phones...ect.

My Compustar remote woke me up this morning, when my dad backed into my car.

(I already replaced the corner lens with an old one I had in the garage).

My dad was a little upset that he had hit it by accident, but I told him not to worry....accidents happen.........now, if I had just gotton the car repainted........

well i know the range on the compustar is amazing just as the powerlink, and i figure if compustar has interfenece then the powerlink must have it too right? And if the powerlink ever had interferance then I never noticed it so it cant be that bad. Still debating

oh one more thing, he said the blue one(old one) is really good, it never screws up, but he said the new one which is black screws up a lot. I never knew they made a black one. Is this true?

Black is the SS.....blue is the FM. The black one is also alot bigger than the blue one.

The SS has some problems with interference when programming it.....the remote is also larger than the Blue remote. (the white case version of the black/dark blue SS one, is in the States).

We've installed both.

IMO......I would suggest the FM one.

Heres a pic of the SS one for you to see the size...(sorry, I forgot to put a AAA battery beside it to give you something that you can compare it with.)

that sucks Al.....HaHaHaHaHa
It's all fixed.

9 times out of 10, it's the install that's to blame.

A couple of years ago, we had a guy come by and just bought the Compustar unit. He was going to get the thing installed by a pro.

I would rather not metion the shop...all i'll say is that it is about 10 minutes west of the pickering flea market, and the owner has a BMW as a demo car.

Well, anyways...this guy came back 3 times for a faulty Compustar. Everytime we gave him a new one....(was a close friend). After getting back the unit, we sent it in. All three times it came back as "NO FAULT FOUND". When he came back a forth time, I asked if the installer had used a GOOD ground for the alarm. He said "of course, he a pro. Why would he. He knows what he's doing".

Well guess what, the following week after we gave him a replacement unit, the thing still had problems. Well, it turned out that AFTER he saw MY installer, we found out that this "PRO" had used a shity ground location.

After that was fixed, the Compustar preformed flawlesly.

Pro he say's.

This is why I am very sceptical when it comes to people installing things by themselves, or by a friend that is suposedly a professional.

PULOVR,

I read up a bit on Compustar, so why do you say SS is not the way to go? It says it's the newest, so by default isn't it the best? Or is FM tried and true?

Just becuse it's the newest, does't automatically make it the best.....even you should know that kind of comment doesn't have merrit.

It like saying that the 6 and up gen Civics are better than the 5th gen's, When everyone knows the 5th gens were the best looking out of all the gen's.

BPBSI said it best....

My installer says the SS is glitchy.
Also, the SS remote is a bit too big for my liking.

I gave my reason's for the FM over the SS in the members section.

another reason to be a paid member.

Both unit's work well when installed properlly.....it's just that the SS seemed to have a few gliches that had to be worked out.....ie...programming the remote issues. Also for the advantage of the "extra" distance that the SS gives you over the FM, is not worth the extra cost IMO.

I'll just leave it at that.
