I dunno about them being legal or not but they are proven to be more dangerous. For everyday use anyway cause you will have no helmet on

There legal, and your car can be insured.

as for being safe?.. thats up to you.. I'v heard that in a crash you run the risk of smacking your head off the bars..

Theres a few threads on roll cages.. try seaching around and see what the other people say.

why do tracks make helmets mandatory when in a car with roll cages? and usally bolt in cages like cusco and **** are garbage they have a huge thing about this on ****** the joints are gunna give and probably cause more damage and harm then good if its not welded in and APART of the car i wouldnt **** with it the even the welds have to be perfect to safety a caged car no porosity's or anything

Helmets should be mandatory with cages if out on the track for Liability sake, if you knock yourself out by smacking your head what good are you in the car? If you want to put a cage in your car just buy some proper roll bar padding, that way if you do smack your head nothing would happen.

In regards to bolt in cages vs welded in? The 944 Rothmans Cup porsche series cars that ran back in the 80's, all had spec bolt in cages. Many cars still in existence today, they all ran bolt in. Its all how its installed.. proper hardware and backing plates make a big difference. And in this application - I am sure that a bolt in cage will be more then enough.

Here is the cage we just put in my old supra.. (this is our www.chumpcar.com for May 22/23rd,2010 race at Shannonville)
