AMP in protection mod

it was working perfectly fine until one hot day
I turned on the car..wait about 3 mins
then turned on my deck
there are no subs at all
so I go take a look on the Amp
the protection light was on
I touched it..it was pretty hot
so I assume maybe the weather is too hot
thats why the amp is over heated
I parked it into my garage and let it cool time.
five hours later
i went to try it again
the protection light is still on
even now
the protection mode nevers go away..
so anyone has any suggestion?
is it time for me to change to a new one?
if I want to fix it
where should i bring to fix.
thanks for your info and help

would help to know which amp it is because diff amps have diff protection mods to diagnose

could be a number of things

bad ground
heat issue
speaker terminal shorted etc.

use a multi meter and put a probe between the ground on the amp terminal, and another extended to the ground on the battery under the hood and check for resistance, if its a bad ground the resistance should be very high

If the fuses are blowing immediately then it would seem as if you're getting a short circuit either within the amp or in the wiring. Check your output wires and the connections to make sure that the insulation didn't wear off or the wires don't cross. If your output wires are fine it might be the amp.

What load are your subs? Can the amp power such subs at that load?

That and your ground as others suggested

well depends on the amp. Alot of amps were cheaply made. Cheap power supply, mosfets etc, but some older amps were made like tanks, and depending on how much damage was done (sometimes its very simple) its way more cost effective to fix, and they will go on for another 20 years of service

Disconnect the amp totally and then re-connect.

Remember amps are DIRECTLY connected to the battery, so once it goes into protection mode, some amps don't go off protection mode until they've been totally reset.

just because they seem off when the radio is off doesn't mean amp isn't still powered. The remote is just a switch to turn it on for amplifying the sound.

actually the amps remote is connected internally to a relay which switches on/off the amp totally, if the amp did not shut down 100% batteries would go dead from having an amp on all the time

I know it turns off the amp, but it's like a car radio..
12V constant keeps your memory alive..

its diff in amps though cause they dont need to store anything in memory, they just put the remote terminal on to make it easy for hookup, instead of letting the user install a heavy duty rocker switch inline on a 4 awg or larger power cable, and the fact some amps have soft turn on to eliminate thumps

i guess my amp is dead, I tried everything, it is still in protection mode.....brought it to a audio store and they said they won't able to fix it beacuse they opened it. and they see all different kinds of parts which they don't have it in stock. so..fixing it = waste of money....upset....
