2nd express down feature on 6th gen
ok guys....this may seem kind of weird but I want to put an express down window button on the drivers side panel for the passanger side window.....does that sound right?
I like the way, I can push the button once and my window goes down. I want to do that for the passangers side window. Does anybody know if thats possible? Would I just be able to get an express down switch and plug it in? I'm guessing thats too easy.....but I want to do it.
any help would be great. anybody have a picture of the two buttons? I don't want to take my door panel off to look, unless I absolutely have to. My car is kind of a "virgin" when it comes to **** like that. And I'm not to keen on being the one to take her "virginity".

The only problem that you might run into, would be the switch itself. The driverside has the drivers/passenger side switches molded together in one housing (if I remember correctly).
You would have to seperate them (nearly impossible without destroying the switch).
It might be easier to get a "express" switch from a different car.....ie Volvo......BMW....ect. They have single "express" swtiches. Get 2 of the "singles", and put them together on the drivers door.
A much easier way would be to use this...........Clifford (DEI) has a thing called "SmartWindows" they had 1,2,3 and now 4.
"Open, close and vent your car's powered windows using your G4 system remote-key. SmartWindows also adds a one-touch control feature inside your vehicle: one tap on the window switch to fully open, one tap to fully close. SafetyStop™ ensures passenger safety by halting window movement if there's an obstruction."
If I remeber correctly, you can also use it as a stand alone system with the help of a few mods to the unit.......ie ...relays.
The SmartWindows 4, looks like this......
My installer has these on his vehicle.....said they wern't that hard for him to put in.........(easy for him that is).
I'll see if I can get some more info for you.

Autoloc "One Touch Express Window Control Unit"
[6/6/2002] Reviewed by: Armand MacMurray - throwaway1@mindspring.com
Applicable to: '90 - '97 '99 + 1.6 liter 1.8 liter
Add-on control module that converts a *single* power window to auto-up and auto-down function. This is a relatively inexpensive (<$50) universal (all make/model) controller, but works fine in the Miata.
I used it to change my '95 Miata driver's window function to auto-full-up/down without modifying the factory switch. If an intermediate position is desired, just briefly press the switch the other way once the window is at the proper height. Installation was straightforward; I installed it in the area behind the vent/heater control/radio fascia for easy access to the power window switch wire harness by the shift lever. In addition to the supplied instructions, you will need to know the color of the Miata power window wire carrying the "window down/open" signal and the wire carrying the "window up/closed" signal; the module is spliced into these wires. You will also need to identify a good ground connection (I used the radio's ground), a source of +12V with enough amperage to power the window motor (I ended up extending the supplied fairly short wire to hook it up to the ignition switch's accessory wire), and have a good crimping tool and good quality! red and blue crimp connectors.
This is a great way to inexpensively convert one window to auto-up/down function. Because of the universal nature of the kit, you will have to research and decide the best installation location and wiring connection yourself.

thanks bbarbulo.......I'll look into both setups.
I do all my own maintenance.......however, removing a door panel does not consist of maintenance. I didn't say that I couldn't do it, I just said I'd rather avoid doing it until I have to because IMO things will get loose.

That said, I've taken my doors apart many times, for speakers, for vinyl, and even for lubricating the window sliders (and yes, that should be normal maintenance). Bottom line is, they are easy to do and will not rattle if you do it right. If you break/bend any clips, just run to the honda dealer and order some... use new clips, and voila, no rattles.
