Unhappy Needing a new catalytic converter

Im in need of a new catalytic converter for my 99 civic ex.
Been calling around, and the cheapest ivefound at Napa is 465! Is this normal for a cat?

I always thought they were cheaper, or at least could be had cheaper. Any places im overlooking? Tried napa and part source. Part source didnt even have it listed in their systems.

Thanks!

I put a high flow magnaflow universal cat on my crx last year for $80 bucks.
I got it through Altech Performance.

If you don't want to spend through the nose, you may have to go with a universal aftermarket cat. Just be aware not all high-flow cats will pass etest. My magnaflow high flow failed horribly (less than 1 year old). I replaced it with an Emico high flow unit and it passed.

You can get oem type universal cats that will work as good as the original cat but will cost a lot less.

Thanks dudes!

Yeah the OEM types were checking out at around 500, so I called Altech, and they have a used Honda one thats still in good condition that theyll sell me for 150. Not bad I think. Still surprised that my 99 needs it after only 140k.

What is the reason you need to replace it? Did it fail etest?

O2 sensor died and was replaced last week. I guess that screwed up the cat converter too.
Made the check engine light come on and it was starting to sputter in low gears. Had to tow it 30km last week, so didnt want to take any more chances.
Pretty much the first parts to die in my civic ever.
