Worth Getting a stock SiR(b16) tuned ?

hey hey,

I've been reading about getting an ecu tuned with crome, but I know nothing about it. Can you guys tell me whats involved in getting an ecu tuned and what exactly gets changed in the chip ?

Is it worth getting a stock 99 SiR(b16) with an intake tuned by crome ?

Can you guys tells me how much this would cost ?

I'm gonna be getting my 00' SiR tuned next summer.

Have intake with velocity stack, header and highflow cat(soon to come) with cat-back.

I hear there is some power to be gained with some basic ecu tuning on a stock b16 with bolt-ons. Nothing huge though.

Not sure about the cost or what all is involved.

Well, the big concern would be the fact you have to convert to OBD1 from your current OBD2b. Not only would this mean a reputable emissions testing facility woulnd't test your car... but strictly from a technology perspective, you're taking a step back.

I'd have to say... it's absolutely NOT worth doing. you will get a lil power... but the Japanese are pretty damn good at tuning their cars right from the factory.

it would cost you close to $500 since you need a conversion harness and chipped obd1 ecu (PM me if you need this, i offer a package deal as well).
Would it be worth it? Depends. I'd say prolly not, wait until you get a few more mods. Like mentioned above, honda does a damn good job of tuning their cars from the factory.

thanks, what bolt-ons could I get to gain a few hp.

I dont want a performance exhaust, dont like fart cans and dont wanna spend money on it, when I already have a perfectly good exhaust.

Could I get headers with my stock exhaust ? Would it be worth it ?

What other bolt-ons would get my some more hp ?

Well in order to get more power you'll have to open up the exhaust. There's no way around it. It doesn't have to be a 'fart can'

If you want somthing quiet go Magnaflow. Im running DC (POS) Headers, Magnaflow Hi-Flow Cat, Greddy twin ressonator and a magnaflow rear ( Cherrybomb)

I have a built motor and it sounds nothing like a fart can infact you can barley hear the exhaust untill Popping VTEC witch is still very quiet.

^^What he said.

If you don't do one of the basic I/H/E (even high-flow cat) then your creating a bottle-neck, restricting your engine and tuning won't give you much.

doesnt make any sense... you said you wanted to bolt stuff on for performance... well, I/H/E are about all you can just bolt on and i hope your intake/Em/exhaust are in good shape unless you bought a POS...

whole idea of modifying is you are changing stock parts... with beter ones...

and btw... fart cans pwn your house at 2am when i drive by... lol

My "fart can" exhaust sounds great...It purrs like a kitten at idle and barks like a bull dog when you crack open the vtec.

Not all fart can exhausts are raspy and crappy sounding. Depends on your header, resonator, cat, and size of piping.

if an exhaust is mandrel bent, there is very little restriction. a mandrel bent 2.25" exhaust will net very close numbers to a 2.5" system. i've seen oem ITR catbacks support 200whp. and that thing is only 2.25" at the bends....if i remember correctly.

if you're a pusshole and never take it above 3k... sure itis overkill... but then a stock b16/gsr is overkill for the driver anyway... no point in getting a motor that is meant to make power to 7500-8000 iif you are scared to push the gas!

i am pretty sure zeeman can back me on the 2.5" here... i used one on my b18c1 and it was incredible up top and really didn't take much at all from down low, especially when you are blazing down the highway your top-end is incredible for those motors...
