why would i be rubbing?
tuesday i had my koni's and h&R sports put on... and with my steelies it was cool.... BUT
yesterday i put my 205/45/16 enkei rims on and i was rubbing like mad an every bump and every corner...and it makes a horific sound...
i believe the offset of the rim said 38
now... i had these rims on my old 6th gen sedan and there was no rubbing at all with the same 1.8" drop and the same koni's
although today it wasn't rubbing as much.... but still rubbing when cornering
anyone know if i get lower profile tires (40 or 35) would i still rub?
or why am i rubbing at all on the hatch... but i didn't in the 4 door?

nope new shocks and springs
and it looks like from the marks on the tires it's rubbing on the fenders on the outside of the wheel

have you tried removing the hub-centric rings? See if that helps?
Plus, if you can't solve the problem, go to an alignment shop and see if you might have positive camber?
Just shooting out ideas No idea why it's doing that though

and do you think going with a lower profile tire could help?

Tire width might be the problem.
All wheels are classified as being either "Hub Centric", or "Lug Centric." The term Centric refers to the way a wheel is centered. In other words a hub centric wheel centers on the hub of the car, if you put the wheel on the car without lug nuts the wheel would be perfectly centered. On a lug centric wheel, the wheels are centered by the lugs as they are tightened down. Manufacturers build wheels lug centric to allow the wheel to fit a wider selection of vehicles.
How bad is the rust??

Welcome to my world... haha... the downside of having incorrect offset! Well, I only rub if I hit large bumps > 100kmh, or i'm turning and hit a bump. or if i'm making a REAL tight turn (ie 407 onramp) faster than 80 kmh... and I rub the same place. So I just have to not drive like Andretti at those places. otherwise, normal driving, I'm good!
How much gap do you have? And how stiff are you running the koni's? It didn't matter much if I'm running my KYBs all stiff or not. Same issues. mind you, i'm on 195/50/15, and my tires originally had 205/55/15 and they rubbed DAY and NITE on STOCK height!

none on the suspension components though.......
and i already got my 20 point inspection from Joe after he put the konis on....
ok.... so my wheels have those hub centric black rings in the centre.... so does that make it 'hub centric"?
and what would be the benifits or detriments to taking the black rings off?
TIA

Are these hub centric rings or spacers?
Is the ring in the middle the 4 bolts or between the hub and the rim?
Options:
1.to change rims with higher offset
2.change camber and have tires worn prematurely
3.modify fenders, roll and/or shave them
4. change WIDTH on tires, may or may not fix problem.

What gen is your car?
I ran 205/40/17 Yoko A520s (fairly square sidewall) with 35 offset rims, race lowered on my EG hatch before without problems.
Figure out where your rubbing is occurring. If it is on the fender lips in the rear, you can try one of the following: (from cheapest to most expensive)
1) Usually there's a piece of metal reinforced rubber lining that slips on to the edge of the fender lip. Try removing that and see if you clear. (It'll give you probably about 3-5mm more clearance).
2) If that's not enough, give'er the old baseball bat "roll up the rim to win". This will give you at least another 5-8mm clearance depending on how much you roll it. Be careful not to roll too much, and when you do it, before VERY VERY careful, because the paint could crack.
3) Switch to a 205/40/16 tire. Lower profile owns anyways...not that much difference in ride harshness between a 45 to a 40.
4) If that's still not enough, go to a body shop and hack off/roll the fender lip all the way up OR make any body mods required.
On the front, there's not much you can do. Just roll up the fender lips that hold the lining in place a little bit and pray that you clear.
Picture of my ride below:
215/35/18 FZ4's mounted on 18x7.5 42 offset rims with a 2.75" drop. Clears with above fender lip mods.
