Okay, yesterday I purchased some poly shhifter bushings and I recieved a short shifter about a week ago and today is nice outside so I figured what an excellent time to do the install. I get the car all jacked up, removed the rear shifter bushing and proceed to remove the shifter itself from the rods, this is where it all goes wrong

the goddamn through bolt that connects the bottom of the shifter snaps the nut comes clean off...you figure hey I can just push the rest of the bolt through the other side...NOPE, the freakin bolt is rusted solide to the shifter bearing and its not gonna budge...so after about 45min of tryin this and that my car is sitting in the driveway shifter assembly half apart and I havent a clue what to do short of callin CAA to bring it to one of my mechanics

has anybody run into this problem? and if ya did what in sheeba's name did u do!!!

get a new dealer part... it won't be that much money, maybe $80 or so

well the thing is I have the parts...I cant get the old one out to put the new in as the shifter is still stuck to the rods cuz that bolt is rusted to the shifter bearing...so since I cant get the shifter out I cant install the new stuff

I think the only way that bastard is comin out is to cut it off, grind off the other head of the bolt or sumthin

can you get the whole asembly out and take a punch to the bolt..???...heat...liquid wrench.....BFH

drill it and re tap, or try to use a screw extractor, sometimes the screw extractor doesn't work. So if you drill and tap it then you can't go wrong.

you have a new shifter, take a sawzle and cut the OEM shifter stick above the joint, then remove it all, and proceed with what dingus said.

it went to my mechanic where I could use the hoist and get under there and use the oxy accet. torch on cut that fugger off...then all went pretty well till I discovered that the front shifter rod poly bushing was the wrong one!

Grrr...so only 1 of 2 of the poly bushings got installed...ohwell...it was the rear one that was mushy anyways

CAA is the bomb, flatbed tow for free!
