Like the topic says for a daily use car what motor and tranny would you guys go with and why?

So far my mind is set on a b20b with a b18c1 tranny.
How does that sound?

I like that setup. I'm going with the b18b with GSR tranny.

b18c5's are good.
But a nicely modded b20b can easily kill a stock b18c5 one of the reasons being torque

Not Really.

Truly depends on application.

hmmm only engine i would put in a civic would be a H22A... i have one in my prelude, and i haven driven civics with B16s and B20s... nothing compares to the tourque of a H22.

B20VTEC ownz, but it's expensive. For a straight drop-in, I'd say either B18C1 or B18C5 with a 98 Spec-R tranny.

I agree. Once the top-end takes over, the B20 has nothing left.

i think that setup sucks.
dont do it. you'll regret it.

b18's w/vtec will eat you in 3rd gear.
thats if you have a stock motor.

w/mods might be a lil diff. but i dunno

expect to top out a 200km on the hwy and be revving at red line.
normal cruising at 120 your at about 4500rpm.
put it like this.. basically in 5th gear your rpms are your speed govener. so if your tach needle reads / then your speedo reads / and so on..

For street driving, I prefer a larger motor. I notice a big difference in terms of driveability between the B16A and B18C. The 1.8L feels much better on the low end.

why get 1.6L when you can get 1.8L for a bit more??

i'd prefer b18B with gsr tranny or b18c5...b16's are nice in hatches...my car, i prefer more torque...im also thinking about a b20 with sir head...anyone have that? i want to turbo it too...so i am not sure

Actually the b20b has mroe torque then the h22 and i think everyother engine reason being it has to push the 4 wheel drive system which would normally be in the crv.

a b20 does not have more torque than a h22 ..

lets compare...
b20= around 125ft/lbs to the wheels
h22=lets say 150ft/lbs to the wheels

AFAIK, you will need to change the pistons because the stock B20 pistons will make contact with the valves. Also, the higher compression will be much nicer for the VTEC head.
