tranny fluid
Just wanted to ask all the 5 speed owners out there what you guys are using for tranny fluid.
I know autos use some weird crap but as far as I know sticks use 10w30 motor oil. Am i wrong?

for a honda, i heard the best is Honda MTF. if situation would not allow, go with 10w30.
as for synthetic MTF, i've heard they are too slippery for the syncro. i could be wrong, don't quote me on that.
btw, i am about the change my tranny fluid with honda MTF, bought 3 bottles (the parts guy suggested in 3), for i think $6 or $7 a bottle.

In the civic manual for my 93 civic si, it says the capacity for the tranny fluid is 1.8 litres.
I used Mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 because it says for manual transmissions use 10w30 motor oil, it only says to use MTF for automatic transmissions.
Cant imagine that the problems I'm having right now that seem to be clutch related are because of using synthetic 10w30. Anybody have any ideas??

It's certainly possible.
For auto tranny's you can use any type of ATF that meets the requirements in the manual, but for manual tranny's you should really use Genuine Honda MTF. I've heard of people suffering from grinding problems from using other fluids such as redline, mobil1 etc.... but this isn't always the case.

Honda used to recommend using regular 10w30 engine oil in their transmissions up to 1992. They released Honda MTL in '93, which is specially formulated for Honda transmissions. It's recommended to change your transmission fluid every 24,000kms or 2 years. I do it every year when I pull the car out.
Synthetics are just a little too slippery for brass synchronizers (which can damage easily) and prevent them from engaging properly. It's flashpoint and pourpoints in sub zero temperatures are excellent, but you shouldn't be blasting off in cold weather after startup anyways.
