Tire and Rims performance

I'm a dumb *** when it comes to Rims and Tires performance on cars. I drive a 1999 SiR.

Should i leave my Original Rims and Tires on, or put 16" Rims and Dunlop 205/40/R16? I don't know how it would perform?? Any experts??

205-40-16 is a little shorter than your stock set-up so you will have better gearing, 205-45 is closer to stock in outside diameter. The added width will give you better grip, but if you really are concerned about performance make sure you get a light rim.

205/45/16 is the right size... I hope this isn't a lame attempt to get 15 posts BTW. As for how it'll perform, depends on what Dunlop tires you get.

No this is not an attempt to get 15 posts. Problem is, one mechanic told me not to put 205/40/R16 on my SiR which are Dunlop G/T Qualifiers i believe it is T rated.

But i also need new tires on the car too. So i already have these 205's with Rims, so just getting a second opinion.

why would you want a tire like the GT qualifier anyways?

anyways, from a technological standpoint, there is nothing wrong with putting on smaller tires. Your speedo will be off about 3% which is nearly insignficant. You'll rev higher on the highway. But you'll have shorter gearing, and as a result better acceleration.

I always recommend getting GOOD tires of the correct size, but if you have a reason for wanting a shorter tire (like auto-x) then it's not wrong to do so.
