Stock vs Aftermarket shocks.

Stock vs Aftermarket shocks.
My car came with Skunk2 coilovers on stock shocks. The ride is pretty harsh. Going over dips on the highways makes me cringe. Will the addition of something like Koni Reds improve the ride quality? Or will the ride sill be harsh?

Any Koni product can be considered the best. The Reds are just cheaper, non-adjustable versions of the Yellows.
There is nothing wrong with the Reds. Unless you plan on adjusting your suspension on a regular basis or Auto-X/racing, the Reds are good enough. Mine are 3 years old and still going strong and I'm totally happy with them.

Your ride now is prob like mine was. Very rough and the seems to 'buck' around. The reds allow the ride to be stiff, but there is enough damping in them to smooth the ride out considerably. They must also be removed to adjust the damping force, not like the yellows which have a dial.

Thanks for the info.
Yes, it feels like I'm riding at a rodeo or something. I have been thrown out of my seat a few times on the bad dips (thanks for seat belts!). It's pretty terrible. I plan to ride it out like this through the winter and install some GOOD shocks in the spring. I just want something with enough damping that everything doesn't go flying when this thing kicks.
3 times the spring rate!!! Damn, what was the previous owner thinking!

Just keep in mind that no matter what suspension you put in, the lower you go, the rougher it gets. If your car is lowered around 2" or more, it's going to be a rigid ride. Proper dampening will make it smoother, but you're still going to feel all the bumps and cacks. I've had two different suspension setups (AGX & H&R Sports and OMNI Coilovers) and with both I could feel just about every crack in the road and I would brace myself whenever I hit bigger bumps.
Ride quality will get a bit better, but handling is what's going to improve the most.
I would at least buy KONI Reds if I were in your shoes.
That's my two cents for you.

so is it even worth buying adjustable shocks if you dont need them? what would you need them for anyway?
i had a tokico brochure and the compression charts of their blue line up is the same as their top of the line...except you can adjust the top of the line..and not the blues

Dude if you bouncing out of your seat don't wait. your car sounds like its dangerous!!!!!!Its dangerous to you and other's on the road. Don't be a cheap skate. Just buy the Red's slap em on. Get something better in a year or two.
