Thumbs down Starting Woes

okay...as of recent my car has had some trouble starting here and there...it doesnt crank but you can hear and feel the starter engage or semi engage.

you can hear metal on metal contact and feel a slight jolt through the car but it doesnt turn over. I think I have narrowed it down to a few things

1. a faulty starter (solenoid kicks out but doesnt spin)
2. damaged flywheel, missing or damaged teeth on the flywheel not giving anything for the starter to grip
3. damaged teeth on the starter (same sit. as above)

the odd thing is both times it didnt start it was at the same damn 7-11 (like its cursed) had to get people to push start my car (thank the car gods for 5spd)...when I get it home and turn it off and try to start it up again the same thing occurs unless (I just tried this now) while the car is running turn the key to the cranking position and get the starter to spin against the flywheel (I know not good) but then when I shut it off the car started fairly normally like nothin was wrong. Another thing is if I let the car sit for a couple hours it will start up fine which is leading me towards a starter issue

Alas, as long as it gets me back to oakville this weekend I'm fine, I'll deal with it there (while I ditch the a/c lines) fackin a/c cars are the worst, lines all over the place infront of and around **** like the starter...GRRRRR!!!!!

oh yea, any insight guys?

i would say a lose wire or faulty starter if there was missing or broken teeth on the flywheel then the starter would come out and whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrr you would hear it spinning by itself got to a wreckers and spend 20 bucks on a starter and swap yours out should fix the problem also check all wires !!!!!!

I'd clean up the starter, inspect it, and replace the brushes. If your flywheel/starter gears were bad, you'd hear the starter spin free. The clicking is the bendix extending. Also, another possibility is a low CCA battery.

Yeah, you can get all that at CT I think, I seen Ford picu-up truck ones sell for like $24, but you're better off going to a starter/alternator place to have it tested and everything. There is this place that's off Wyondotte (sp) and Walker... just east of there, go under the overpass, back up... and it's a street just to your right... but Windsor Starter and places like that will set you up proper. About $60 for them to rebuild the starter. But it's work you can do yourself too - just take it apart and inspect it, if you see anything wrong you can give it to them to rebuild.
