Was driving tonight to the grocery store an noticed my car (91 ef hatch zc swap) was sounding different. After leaving the store the noise got more intense followed by a smell of smoke. Stoped the car, pulled over an saw that the smoke was comin from the alternater area. Thought the beltwas rubbing but all looked to be ok. Continued to drive only to see my battery light come on. Im thinking that it must be alternater related, but my question is,when an alternater goes, does it smoke?
Any help would be great !

It sounds like the pulley seized on your alternator.

yeah, it can start to smoke. either way, time for a new alternator
