Short Shifter Rattling
I just installed my short shifter and its rattling. What could be causing this? I thinking the exhaust is causing this but has anyone encountered this before? What did you do to fix it?
Thanks

I've seen this happen on various cars... even stock VWs sometimes have this problem. On your car it prolly is the exhaust as we all know it's a pretty tight fit. But sometimes the bushings just have this wierd harmonic to them and it has this noise. If it's not the exhaust, then you'll just have to live with it.

mine rattled because I didnt tighten the shifter bearing to linkage bolt tight enough in fear of tthe shifts being to stif and slow.. so basically what i did was found the optimum tightness between it not rattleing and stifness of the shifter.
Also the OEM shifter has these little rubber spacers that prevent contact between the shifter bearing and linkage, they were a pain to get in there cuz they wernt designed for the aftermarket shifter, but ultimately I think it was those that cured 90% of the rattle. Its quiet as a mouse now.
If noone of that helps then it has to be the exhaust . Skunk2s are the worst for that problem, i think neuspeed does it too.

Yes this certainly helps. I installed all the spacers and stuff. Although I believe the bushings could be the problem probably need to be tightened and or the exhaust.
I'll look into these things and I'll get back to you guy's.
Thanks

yup, mine touches the exhaust, way to fix this us unhook the exhaust from the hanger thats right beside your shifter under the car, just make shure all your other hangers are in place and functioning properly, last thing you probably need is your exhaust dragging on the ground!
