ok, got the pan off, found no shavings in there, and all the rods are tight, no movement, however, i pulled the oil pick-up off and dumped out a bunch of metal from there, which looked to be brass, but might be stained from the oil, think it clogged the pick-up and wasnt getting oil? because the valves sounded noisier then when i pulled the motor, and from the first start when there was oil up there, any suggestions?

It depends on how much shavings but where the metal it was obviously from somewhere. I wouldnt be so sure about the rod bearings i personally take them apart and inspect them since its open ... unless you spun a main bearing on the block .. which usally isnt good that just means replacing the block alot worse then just replacing the crank.... but to cause it to knock. hmmm unless u dropped a valve did u take off the head ?

didnt take off the head, but took off the valve cover and spun the motor by hand, and found everything up there to be top notch, nothing wrong, and there were quite a few shavings, i'm thinking it blocked oil flow and that caused the knock? i'm runnin outta ideas, all i know is that theres no play in the rods, wrist pins, or crank

theres gotta be somthing there to make a knock like that though i dont get it ... if oyu got the motor out i would just go over it take it all out and inspect it isntead of being stumped and thinkin this and thinkin that! hopfully its nothing to bad! as for the pump being blocked ... there is metal in there but why there is a reason for that which is obviously the sound!

well you may have found the source of the problem. If the oil pickup was clogged it could possibly starve the engine of oil which in term could cause a bearing to spin. I would do as dubz01si said and check the bearings while its apart.

you have a problem dude. shavings in the pick up is bad and its not gonna be as easy as poping in a new bearing. dump the engine and put in another that you say you can get. oh and maybe you want to pull the pan and valve cover off that one before you throw it in. regardless the engine is toast and needs a rebuild.

the other one needs a full rebuild anyways including new valves, i'm just gonna throw the pick-up on, throw oil in it, hook up an oil pressure gauge and go from there, if it has oil pressure, and the knock goes away, then i'm not gonna worry and just rebuild my single cam just incase

yeah i agree with Steve, if the engine was starved of oil (due to the clogged pick-up) its more than likely going to need some serious work. Think about it, you said there was lots of metal shavings when you pulled the valve cover off, that means they've been through the engine, and are more than likely still inside. I wouldn't be surprised to see your oil pump take a crap on you.
It sucks that you just swapped that engine in, but your best off to find a replacement.

yeah that sucks your will just mess up another oil pump kinda a waste of time and money ... pull it and buy that ZC !

i had swapped in my b16a the one that was seized .. ive put the swap off for ahwile cuz im sick of all the b/s .. im slowly getting back into the swing of things and will most lilky be finished b4 Dec 1st.. but then after that comes wiring and tuning ect. you can buy motor's cheap anyway that ZC should only be 500 600 bucks or so i dont think there much anyways goodluck!!

no, there were zero shavings in the valve cover! they did not travel thru the motor at all, the screen in the pick-up stopped them all.

also, its kind of hard to spend 5 - 600 bucks on a motor when ur 2 grand in debt, and have no money at all to spend

Dude you need to check out those bearings, rods and crank. Thinking that it is anything else is just wishful thinking. Brass coloured shaving are definetly from the crank or rods. Steve's being lenient by giving you 2 weeks, I'd say one week or one night of hard driving. NO body is trying to get you to spend more $$ money then you have to. Just stating the facts. So before you sink another penny into this motor get another one.

OK I understand, but fixing it the way you want to will more then likely be the same or cause more damage. So the question is: Do you take your chances and possibily destroy it some more Or do you leave it alone for now
