no idea, i think just normal wear and tear or something. I'm not a crazy driver or anything. It appears only the front ones look like that, but the rear ones made my shocks blow. lol
These are the R1 Racing sport first gen or something. Blue ones with dual springs. Surprised the crap out of me when Joe showed me that.

pics don't work.....shitty deal, but you get what you pay for R1 isnt' high quality goods...and dotn' you have to lube them and keep them clean as **** int eh winter time..??? cause I knwo that's the case for true coilovers.....they rust to ****

try copy and paste cuz it seems to work for me and its worked for jugglez. I got them 2 years ago and didn't know jack about this stuff...lol ya, they didn't seize cuz i lubed that **** like crazy. Already got new suspension. =)

Those pics didn't show where it might have been.....ie....ride height when you had it lowered.
I've seen that happen on 1 car before. The guy had it slammed, and the suspension had no travel whatsoever.
It could also have been from an incorrect sleeve size. If the sleeve was a bit bigger in diameter, the bottom probably wouldn't have split.
Those were on the back, right? I guessed the back, because the cup on the bottom of the strut would of kept it from spliting all the way, and then collapsing.
I can also see the wear marks on the inside of the sleeve. This is why I came to the conclusion of an improper sleeve diameter......or you didn't sand/grain the part that was hitting the bottom of the sleeve.....ie the strut.
Know what I mean?

That particular sleeve was on the front of the vehicle and packaging said that the coilovers were for 96-00 honda civic. So I'm assuming they are the correct ones. My car was only lowered about 1.7" in front and 1.5" in back. No, I didn't do any sanding, didn't know I needed to, I had a mechanice install them.

ive also seen APC coilovers that had similar problems. ive also seen some where the spring ends up warping, and the spring is permenantly lopsided, lol.
i remember a thread on here awhile ago where someone suggested the R1's are good for anyone who just wants to drop their car and does not care the most about performance / ride quality... lol

Bahahah it should be a major difference. the old ones were broken
ok i'll shut up now.
i think this was just a flaw in production. generally coilover sleeves, although not the greatest in quality, won't break like that even under the most extreme driving conditions. i think it's just a case of bad luck.
