:haha: hope those aren't yours

imported_D dot T 02-Aug-2003 11:25 PM

Unfortunately yes they are....... and dam you respond fast duy

its a lose-lose situation with them. if they don't seize up on you, they crack in half...lol

Jugglez 02-Aug-2003 11:27 PM

 damn man what happened?

what kind of coils are those anyways? call up the manufacturer and bitch. email them the pics

imported_D dot T 02-Aug-2003 11:33 PM

no idea, i think just normal wear and tear or something. I'm not a crazy driver or anything. It appears only the front ones look like that, but the rear ones made my shocks blow. lol
These are the R1 Racing sport first gen or something. Blue ones with dual springs. Surprised the crap out of me when Joe showed me that.

imported_D dot T 02-Aug-2003 11:33 PM

I don't even know if R1 even has a company site.....else I WOULD email them that!

Jugglez 02-Aug-2003 11:39 PM

Here's the parent site for R1 Racing - http://www.24hiper.com/ - give 'em ****!

so you were riding on them broken like that for a while? :D :haha: man you have the worst luck.

imported_94EG6HB 02-Aug-2003 11:42 PM

Say you almost died...

Get new ones and sell them..

That's some scary ****..

imported_D dot T 02-Aug-2003 11:43 PM

ya mon, riding around with broken **** ain't funny yo!!!! for some reason i do got the worst luck!

dingus8 03-Aug-2003 12:42 AM

pics don't work.....shitty deal, but you get what you pay for R1 isnt' high quality goods...and dotn' you have to lube them and keep them clean as **** int eh winter time..??? cause I knwo that's the case for true coilovers.....they rust to ****

dingus8 03-Aug-2003 12:44 AM

oh ya now you learnt a valuable lesson and now must get a "real suspension" :santa:

PULOVR 03-Aug-2003 12:52 AM

Pics didn't work.

By the way, how low did you go?

Please put the pics back up, I would like to see them.

:)

imported_D dot T 03-Aug-2003 12:55 AM

try copy and paste cuz it seems to work for me and its worked for jugglez. I got them 2 years ago and didn't know jack about this stuff...lol ya, they didn't seize cuz i lubed that **** like crazy. Already got new suspension. =)

PULOVR 03-Aug-2003 01:38 AM

How low did you go?

Those pics didn't show where it might have been.....ie....ride height when you had it lowered.

I've seen that happen on 1 car before. The guy had it slammed, and the suspension had no travel whatsoever.

It could also have been from an incorrect sleeve size. If the sleeve was a bit bigger in diameter, the bottom probably wouldn't have split.

Those were on the back, right? I guessed the back, because the cup on the bottom of the strut would of kept it from spliting all the way, and then collapsing.

I can also see the wear marks on the inside of the sleeve. This is why I came to the conclusion of an improper sleeve diameter......or you didn't sand/grain the part that was hitting the bottom of the sleeve.....ie the strut.

Know what I mean?

PULOVR 03-Aug-2003 02:02 AM

Either way, call and complain.

imported_D dot T 03-Aug-2003 12:01 PM

That particular sleeve was on the front of the vehicle and packaging said that the coilovers were for 96-00 honda civic. So I'm assuming they are the correct ones. My car was only lowered about 1.7" in front and 1.5" in back. No, I didn't do any sanding, didn't know I needed to, I had a mechanice install them.

neilff 03-Aug-2003 12:09 PM

not surprised...
ive also seen APC coilovers that had similar problems. ive also seen some where the spring ends up warping, and the spring is permenantly lopsided, lol.

i remember a thread on here awhile ago where someone suggested the R1's are good for anyone who just wants to drop their car and does not care the most about performance / ride quality... lol

imported_Joker 03-Aug-2003 02:46 PM

D dot T, what type of springs are you on now? So I guess these coils arent as reliable as some members suggest they are

imported_D dot T 03-Aug-2003 02:49 PM

I'm now on H&R sports all around with kyb agx in the front and kyb gr2's in rear. Ride is awesome, major difference. :D

Jugglez 03-Aug-2003 04:04 PM

Bahahah it should be a major difference. the old ones were broken :haha: :D

ok i'll shut up now.

i think this was just a flaw in production. generally coilover sleeves, although not the greatest in quality, won't break like that even under the most extreme driving conditions. i think it's just a case of bad luck.
