rear disks on civic

i was told that i would need special tools to replace the pads and rotors for the rear of my car. 93 Si hatch. is this true? and if so is it possible to bypass the abs and just have them non abs but not need these special tools??

The only special tool you need is this little block/cube do hicky. This tool has something to do with the ebrake being connected to the rear disc assembly. At least that's what my teacher said when we wanted to do the rear brkes for a buddy's '93 Nissan Maxima. The tool is like $20 at Crappy Tire I think. Anybody else know what i'm talkin bout here?
