RE: an intercooler?? nah... it's just a cold air intake

a few comments on this closed thread,

http://www.torontocivics.com/tccforu...&threadid=2086

For all of you who had something to say, untill you've had one, you should just button it, 'cause to people who know, you just sound stupid. Make all the assumptions you want, but you will be wrong. I had one of the first of these on the market, before arospeed bought the rights to this product, it was made by a small fabrication & speed shop in florida. I got mine direct from them about 5 years ago. On my 95 Si coupe, it far outperfomed the AEM that it replaced. As someone noted there is a plexi cover included with the setup, if you run with the plexi cover, yer gonna be dissapointed, with the cover on, it sucks ***, it's slow, very boggy, and blocks enough of the rad that yer car will overheat on hot days. Needless to say once I made that discovery, I never drove with the cover on, ever. At the time I was working in Jersey, and driving back to TO every weekend, about 8 hours each way....a number of times I drove the whole trip in pouring rain, no cover, never a problem, I drove it for close to 3 years with no cover, through the winters, no cover, packed with snow and ice, no cover. When living in jersey, they had a hurricane there, untill you've seen rain falling sidways, you have no idea, drove it then, no cover.....in the 3 years I had on my 95 I never had a single problem, rain, snow, or otherwise, and I didn't drive any different than I had before. I will say, that the filter needed more regular cleaning, about once a month or so (even then I once drove it for 4 months through the winter with no cleaning and no problem, the filter was packed with dirt and gravel, the inside of the intake was as clean as new) but it's also much easier to get at then any other CAI, I will also say that I have not seen or used the "Arospeed" version of this product so I cannot attest to it's contsruction or quality, but the concept of a FMIS is sound, and does work very well. Oh, and for the quasi-ricers out there, with the cover off, it's also about 3 times as loud as an AEM, and that was on a SOHC, I can't imagine the noise it would make on a DOHC.

If you have something constuctive to say please post, if you are just going to spew uneducated opinions and garbage, keep it to yourself. This is not the "Chit-Chat" forum, the "Performance" forum is designed to help and educate.

I agree 100%. This intake is SICK!!!!!!!! I put my on today. It's the Arospeed one, and COZMO I got a DOCH SiR and man it's SUPER loud. And I already have the plexi galss off. Never even put it on. I love it and it looks good behind my bumper. Everyone who has seen it loves and thinks it sounds wicked. Rich loved it. I think he might be getting one now.

See you all tomorrow. I will be coming If it doesn't rain, but If I do it will be late like around 11.

Hey man, could you PM me how much you paid for it, I'd like to know. I like the way it looks and stuff. Also, if by chance you got any pics, I would really like to see it on your car.

100% think it's PIMP. I know people are gonna say it's RICE but who cares Mine and Jays cars are RICE anyways RIGHT

I'm not sure if i'm gonna get it but it does kinda look COOL.
The one thing that I don't like is the size of the piping (Kinda small) I'm gonna see if I can pick up and AEM and work with that.

Lates

NNNNNNNNice
I should really get that for my big mouth.

The intake is protected from stones and birds by the mesh grill.

Dude, your ride look sick, without trainned eyes, that's an intercooler.

I agree, looks pretty good. I guess performance wise it's all good when you take off that plexiglass...otherwise what i said was right about it being boggy and blocking the rad.

i guess no one has a dyno comparison of this vs. an AEM intake?

Are you refering to me with that comment? How old are you anyway??

Maybe you should learn how a bypass valve works and that intercoolers DO block the rad before you start talkin smack.

I respect what your sayin' about people making assumptions and going on about thing that they have no idea about. I don't doubt you when you say that this CAI outperformed the AEM. I am just curious as to how you made that determination. Did you do a dyno comparison or is this just your seat of the pants eval. I have seen the dyno sheet for the AEM on a GSR and had it explained to me by a very respected mechanic who isn't your typical grease monkey. He's a mechanical engineer who was trained by Honda as a technician and now ownes his own shop. I'm not sayin your wrong but my point is the numbers don't lie, and as somone who is looking to buy a CAI, I'd like to see the numbers.
