Putting a D15 (JDM with the 2 stage vtec) - into a 97 1.6el (sohc vtec)

Hey,

My D16y8 bottom end is shot. I have a D15 engine that I am putting in and it has 2 vtec solonoids vs the 1 that the D16Y8 motor had.

I was told that all I have to do is use my D16Y8 intake and exhaust manifold as well as the distributor. Everything is plug and play from there - and then I have to tap the wires to from the one solonoid to the other.

Is this true? anyone have experience with this 'normal' swap?

Is my ECU ok?

Let me know - the above is what I have been told.

Can someone please post if this is correct and if so - the colors of the wire to tap from the one solonoid to the other...

Thanks in advance

Yeah I would assume you just tap into the existing wires (wait for someone to confirm this) i've never done this swap.. lol frankily i laughed at the name.

Anyways... you CAN use your p2p ecu but that is not the best choice, neither is the p28 ecu (unforunately) your best choice would be to get a street tune by zeeman on a chipped p28 ecu. But I guess a p28 ecu would do just fine (just wouldnt provide maximum fuel economy or power) But your stock ecu is definately not the best idea to use..

I read that the EU in the 97 1.6el is the same as the one in the Civic SI - but the number on the ECU is different on each...

Can I chip my ecu / mod it? If so, how much and where - in order to maximize fuel economy and power.

I was told from 2 different shops that my ecu is fine - but I want to make sure asking the people here on TCC that have experience or at least know what should be done to do it right.

1.6el and civic si use the same engine, therefore the same ecu, yes.

No you cannot chip.mod your ecu.. only obd1's can be chipped (92-95) well obd0's too, but lets not get into that.

Yes your ecu will be fine, it'll run and drive, but like i said. the maps are different and you wont be getting max. power/economy.

If u have the d15b stage 2 vtec motor, use the ecu that came with that motor, if not go to te.k.notik, and have nick hook you up with a two stage vtec program, that way u benfit from your motor. Either way, U have to do the obd1 conversion, It really easy Its just a harness u plug in before u plug your ecu in.
