This on your CX?

You sure coolant is flowing through the core? Coolant flow could be blocked. You have air though right? Then core fan is working.

Thermostat wouldn't have anyting to do with it ( I don't think... )
That controls the flow to the rad.

Heater core in and out are seperate lines that flow from engine to core and back to engine.

no this is my 1990 honda civic SI

yes the fan is working as I'm painfully aware of after being blasted by cold air

there still could be a blockage and so I'm probably going to replace hoses.....

heater cores start to leak, lose fins, squirrles make nests in them, etc, etc... so there are all kinds of problems you could have. It's located kinda behind the glovebox, there are a couple of nuts you gotta remove in the engine compartment on the firewall (good luck) and then you can remove the heater core and have it rebuilt at a rad shop or get a new one. But yeah... as long as the valve is working, and the engine heats up... and there are no air bubbles in your system, there should be heat!!

so air bubbles could reduce the effectiveness of heat transfer....

I know it's not leaking cause there ain't any fluid in the car

no, just if you get mad vapour lock in your cooling system and the heater core effectively gets cut off... that's why when flush and refilling the system you put the heater on full hot and let the car run till 2 fan cycles pass.

my old 90 Si did the same thing, I'm convinced that the heater core was blocked as I tried everything but taking out the heater core...so upto last december I had a car with no heat, it wasnt fun at all

you can take off both heater core hoses and blow some compressed air through one and if it dont come out the other one then u know she is all blocked up...and heck you might even be able to blow the clog out while you are at it

careful taking off the hoses, generally they have bonded to the core already, so go slowly, maybe cut a slit in in first and spray wd40 in there to loosen the grip so you can twist the hoses off. Cynikal, that is a great idea.

Also try putting water through from your garden hose, that way you can actually see how well it's flowing and whether or not there is a severe blockage.
