muffler protection

hey just a quick question.....i just bout a performance muffler and i play to get it installed cat back. one of my buddies has one as well but his has lost its shine, and kinda looks like its rusting....im just wondering if theres something i can put on it before i get it installed that would protect it from turning out like his.

go down to crappy tire and buy "Never Dull" its a wool type wax that u rub on let it sit and then rub off and its protects anythin chrome, steel, everythin, i use it al the time and my muffler servives crazy winters up here in the north, (Sudbury area). and i have no spots on it at all. best investment.
