Talking Muffler Hole

I've got a stock muffler on my 95 Civic DX Coupe.

It's got this hole that formed when a spot of rust fell. The hole has gotten bigger and now it streches across the bottom of the muffler and up one side.

I was just wonder at what point this type of thing becomes illegal and is there anything I can do to keep it legal until I get the money together to replace it.

I've just started a new job with Toshiba Tech. Support and my money has priorities. So it may be some time until I have enough to get it fixed. That is unless it becomes illegal and I don't have much choice. Then I'd make some sacficies to keep my car legal.

Thank much for whoever gives me some info on this.

You could probably find a used OEM one in the classifieds for under $50. I sold mine for $25.

Any Civic muffler from 1992-2000 should fit, but a Coupe or Sedan would be your best choice.

I know. The trouble is scratching together enough money to buy a new muffler. Other things keep popping up. Like now I think I need a new battery first.

I just got this car in March. I've been working for only a few weeks and I'm starting to pay off bills and stuff. So now I'm slowly pouring money into my car and fixing the things I should have fixed in he first place. But I payed $4100 and change for it in the first place. And everything works. It's just a matter of working on it until it's good and looks nice again.

I'm even thinking of switchint to an acura 2.2 engine. Since my stock engine has 263,000Km.

Any advice you wana give me on a replacement engine?

Well any type of exhaust leak isn't smog legal so if a ***** cop wanted to he could pull you over and issue a ticket. Don't bother trying to spend money fixing it when you can get like replacements for less than the price. Or maybe just buy a no name brand performance muffler for like $100 or something. As for replacement engine , tons of options. B16 , B18 , ZC , H22 , H23, ect. Look to spend anywhere from $1000-$6000 for an engine depending what you get and how used it is. Or if you wanna save money , grab a newer D16 engine off a 6th gen civic. Could probably get one with low km's for ~$500.

I was thinking of putting in whichever engine I can manage to fit in that will give me the most power.

I'm going for a car that looks good with a nice sound system.

But if I'm driving around like that I might as well have an engine to match. So I'm wonder which engine would actually fit under my hood that compatible that would give me the best racing performance. My 103 horses isn't really race worthy.

I'll think about it. I found a nice looking and sounding sport muffler with free silencer for $120 on the for sale list.

But if I can't get that I'll probably go with yours.
