92' Civic Starter Motor prob......Help?

My starter motor is making a loud clicking noise as if the teeth are not engaging properly onto the fly wheel. Now, the starter motor does work. I've tested it separately and it runs. I've even bought a rebuilt one as well and it runs too. The teeth on the flywheel are fine. The car will run from a rolling start. I have a feeling it's something to do with not enough power running to the starting motor in order to engage it on the flywheel.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and knows the solution?

the clicking is the bendex engaging the starter, but it sounds like the battery doesn't have enough juice to spin the flywheel.

Did a search for a starter and amillion things came up...I didn't feel like weeding through all of them so this one's gonna have to do.

I went to the gym this evening and all was good with my car. I went to leave and as I turned the key there was loud click and then nothing. Just Great...

SO I tried a few more times and I could hear a slight clicking coming from one of the left air vents. Sometimes the accessory lights would come one and sometimes not, which led me to believe it was my battery. The presets on my deck were back to default, too (it had just enough power to turn on).

I called a friend, got a boost, drove it home (about ten minutes), let it idle for another few and tried to start it again...Same thing happened. Just went "Click" and then nothing...

Starter? Battery? Anything else?

I'll say the same thing as I did 3 months ago....B-A-T-T-E-R-Y...just change the battery and while you're at it to extend the life of the battery, change the terminals too. Those stock copper terminals have the tendency to corrode away and loose contact with the battery. The cleanest and most complete connection will prolong the life of the battery. The fact that you were able to boost it and start it tells me that it's definitely the battery.

Cheers,
Buddah.

How many times do you tell people "if you gave me a half decent description i could give you a better diagnosis of the problem" Thats all I was trying to do.

And Buddah,

I figured that too, thanks for the tip.
