Minor gas tank leak, solutions?
From what I can see after climbing under the car, there is a very small, not-visible crack or hole or whatever it is, that is leaking gas from my gas tank....But it's so small, that after a day of sitting on the drive way, there is a stain the size of a quarter..maybe like 1 drop an hour is what comes out..
now i discovered this on thursday i think, and i've been driving with it since...i'm planning on getting this fixed...shortly
so i called one mechanic, he said he'll replace it, he said he can't weld it and off the top of his head he said 280$ for a new tank..
any other possible solutions??
thanks

I'm not sure EXACTLY where your leak is, but you MAY be able to use this Strong Metal stuff. It is in a tube and it basically steel "putty". You put it on what ever you want and let it cure and its strong as steel. May work, may not. If i remember, ill go to my garage and look for it tomorrow.

That's very interesting Jacob..
That's actually the kind of solution i was thinking about...see I don't think it's anything big to need a whole replacement, it can do without that....get back to me on that steel putty **** or whatever it is
thanks..

Yeah this "putty" should be a short term fix. A quick patch should prevent the gasoline from leaking out.
As for long term, if the problem arises again, and if your funds are sufficent, I would suggest to get it fixed professionally (ie replaced), just so you wont run into further problems

That "putty" they're talking about is called JB weld. It would be a temporary fix but should do you quite well for a bit until your able to afford a new gas tank and replacement. Honestly its not that hard to replace it and if your technically savvy, you cando this yourself.
