Kissed the Curb today.....

So I went sideways on a 90 degree right turn today. Speed was maybe15-20, but car slided and went right into the curb. I hit the curb sideways, with the driverside. Got off the car and checked, no body damage. (thanks god)

However, The front driver side wheel took it badly. The rim went it and is pushing the tire. Hubcap got chiped off too. I think I have to replace the rim....

Now the question is what else could be broken. Just so I know what to expect.... The steering shook alot. I couldn't check anything else because of the snow....

Thanks for your comments.

Sh*t thats a long list!! Alignment, wheel bearing, rack and pinion, wheel, LCA,.....

I guess I change the wheel first and see if there are anymore symptoms afterwards....

How is Walmart Auo Center BTW? I'm planning to go there and have them put my tire on a new steely and set the alignment...

tie rod... in addition to all the other ****...

hitting the curb sideways is the worse thing you can do. you always steer INTO it so the wheel climbs the curb (rolls with the hit) rather than stopping dead.

my bro did the same thing, he bent the frame, car was totalled. very minor hit - rim didn't even bend

Ball Joint. I did the same thing out here in Van/BC and slightly bent/hairline cracked the ball joint housing (the 'socket' part). Not a big problem NOW, but in the future......

As for rim damage, scuffed rear rim pretty good ($120 repair) and completely 'shaved' entire lip off front rim and warped it...(Enkei RP02) and that was $150 repair.....

Well thats a relief!!!!

I just checked the damaged side with the steering totally turned and compared the LCA and other suspension parts to the other side. They all looked the same. I didn't notice anything nasty...

I will change the rim and see if there is any funny vibrations and steering shakes afterwards....

Was this a Civic?

I'd comment on my curb experiences... (yes thats pural) but I've been lucky both times....

basically tie rods , lower control arms, knuckles upper control arms ... ball joints bushings ... it's all getting replaced after my last curbing..... good thing I was on steelies

never curbed my Civic.

once in the old saturn I used to have, but it was more of a snowbanking than a curbing... quite a few times with my old old old Daytona Like at least 4 or 5 times. I beat that car so bad LOL even cornering once I managed to curb it - it was dry out but I misjudged the apex, so my rear wheel just clipped the curb and hopped it.... doing 70 km/hr LOL Needless to say I blew the shock. The last one was the worse... bent wheel, bent suspension... the front end was toast. I sold the car after that through some shady dealer. I dunno what he did with it... but that poor car ended up in some sucker's hands Ahhhh... to be 16 and buck wild. LOL

So I went to Walmart and had the steelie replaced. Total cost was 62.50 including the rim, tire mounting, tire balancing, taxes and etc...

Car seems to Ok. Just like before the accident.(thanks god)
The steering shake is gone and car behaves and operates normal.

Thanks everyone for your commens (eventhough some were very scary!! )
