I'm in DEEP **** - Junkyard or Honda?
As I was taking pictures of my broken valve cover bolt to show my oil leakage, I put back the cover and OVERTORQUED AND BUSTED A SECOND BOLT. Now my valve cover has a WIDE opening in the front and I CANNOT drive my car in fear that things go from bad to worse.
My question is obvious. Where can I find Immediate replacements for the two bolts below. They come off easy but they seem to hold the rocker arms in place...
Advice TCC?
No need to call me names, I've done enough of that myself.
This is the bolt that broke 2 minutes after I took this picture
This is the already broken one, now they both look like this
A little blury - notice the tip on the right side, it's snapped - both are
Slow oil leak with just 1 broken bolt
Self-explanatory
Before
After - Partially unbolted - Look at the tip
Anyway you get the idea... With the long weekend coming up, I'd love to pickup a replacement pair of bolts ASAP. Think Honda will cary this? or am I better off hunting around in Junkyards?

The first one was totally my fault.
The second one must have been weak from previous times, 'cause there is no way I busted it by over-tightening.
Yes, gonna get me a torque wrench. The next busted bolt may not be so easy to replace.

its a simple process.
this is wat u do.
get a small dremel tool and cut a slit into the bolt top and get it screwed out. Or if u can already get it out thats perfect.
then go to honda and tell them u need two of watever bolts and they will give them to u and ur set.

I would get 4 new ones from Honda. If the first 2 broke, that means the other 2 are not that far behind.
Wouldn't it be funny to go out and buy 2 brand new ones....get them home......install them.....and then break the other two?
I wouldn't get them from the scrapyard unless it was an emergency, and you had no other place to go. You don't know what kind of abuse the previous owner put them through.
Go to Honda.
by the way, if you were a paid TCC member, you would be able to get a discount on the parts you need from one of our affiliates. (a Honda dealer)

While you are there, don't forgat to pick up new seals for the cover, sparkplug holes, and for the holes in the valve cover where the bolts go through. Trust me......less headaches later.
Also make sure the surface that the valve cover gasket touches is free of any old gasket or silicone material.

Thanks for the advice man, I'll contact the dealership asap.
As for cleaning up the old silicon before putting in the new gaskets, well my old gaskets look like they're in great shape (60k car) but I guess you can't be too careful.
Thanks again!

Ya, I got new ones from the dealer.... reason you MAY be busting them is there should be a metal hat on the top of the rubber things.... mine had gone missing, so there was no stopper on it, as a result even though I was using a torque wrench, it broke. It's fixed now, this was a while back...

I ordered a new set of bolts from the dealership along with the washer that's underneat (that you say you lost). I lost it too but that was after I broke the bolts.
I also got a new gasket and 4 spark plug mini-gaskets. And the nuts too since they had a broken piece of bolt inside.
The whole thing after tax was $54.
The bolts I broke (in the pictures above) were roughly $5 each.
They arrive first thing tomorrow, can't wait...

I got my bolts and my valve cover is as good as new.
Get this, my bolts were roughly $5 each, the nuts around $3. So why did my bill come up to $50? The freakin' gasket was $17!
I got a couple replacement spark plug gaskets too. You'd think rubber is cheaper than metal, not @ Honda's
