I'm no tranny expert, but I think the Reverse gear is not hellical. That's why you sometimes cant get it in gear the first try.

I find that the only time I grind a gear is when I miss shift and hit right between 2nd and 4th or 1st and 3rd. My brain is already letting the clutch out at this point and, by the time I correct the shift, the clutch is out and I'm basically shifting with outusing the clutch.

I cant help but feel like a complete bafoon, but whatever...it happens once in a blue moon to everyone.

Yeah Reverse gear aren't hellical. Sometimes with my 90 civic HB and my SiR it would be a bit hard getting into reverse. A little grind won't hurt the transaxle too much.

If your getting grinds all the time you might want to check into transaxle fluid level and possible change it with HONDA MTF.

When I bought my first new car (won't be doing that again until I'm old!) It was a mazda protege 5 / 5spd. Never drove std in my life, driving home I ground the ISH out of 2nd, almost cried. but it was fine after that, didn't know too much about std trannys then. Couple minor times in me SiR-into 2nd- but still shifts so nice.
You have to remind yerself to clutch fully before shifting. hand off the shifter until clutch is in, smoother shifts IMO.

haha... i grind a gear sometimes too... especially when its cold... when i shift into 2nd, it grinds a bit... and sometimes its hard to get into first, so i had to go into 2nd first, then go into 1st, and it grinds a lil when its really cold outside

your suppose to wait like 5 seconds after pushing in the clutch before going into reverse I believe, thats why its hard to get it in right away.

I've only grinded in Reverse once. This was when I was still getting comfortable driving stick. I thought the car was in reverse, and let out on the clutch and gave it gas. I hear a loud sound, and I'm like "F#&$". This was when my car was maybe 3 or 4 months old. I've never grinded a gear since.
