hell I clean my engine bay every time I wash. All three civics, 2 6th gens and my 5th gen. I simple green them each once a year. I have never ever covered a thing in there, and I hose it down pretty hard, not pressure washer, but a heavy stream of water. Never had an issue before

But I always wash the engin first, then the rest of the car leaving the hood open, so the hood stays open for at least 45 mins, then i usually dont drive the car right after, so its probably always dried...

BUT what i dont understand is that i drive through huge rain storms huge puddles that soak the engine bay and alternator all the time which also never leads to fried electrics...

Im thinking its purely coincidence that you had a problem...

i followed the exact directions until i went on again later on that day and found out that an updated post said to cover the alternator...which is the only thing i did not do. what pisses me off most is that i didn't even spray my alternator that much. sure i got simple green on it and sprayed it but everytime it was just like a quick rinse cuz i was so paranoid of it.

ive bin scared to do my engine, and my engine bay looks lyk SH*T its so durty under there sorry to heer bout u'r alt.

maybe if your going to replace it anyway consider getting a higher output alt, if you have a system , or if ur planning to put one in.

good luck with u'r alternator search.

Mine is a 1.7el(same as 2k1 civic) and I did wash the engine bay whenever I want, yestersday I washed it and the battery light was flashing, then I checked everywhere inside the bay and found out that the engine wire dressing kit was the problem, the one(ground wire) wiring between the engine and body chasis was flowing with water coz of the kit surrounding the ground, after I took the dressing off, I turn on the car and the problem is solved.

p.s. I just cover the battery and intake while washing the engine bay. Water goes alternator shouldn't have a problem coz it supposingly can handle wet and water...(it's just my 2 cents).

Sounds like you definately need a new alternator. Check out ebay man, I've seen some on there for really cheap.

I wanted to simple green my engine bay soon too, but your story frightens me. You better believe I'm gonna cover that alternator good !!
