gauges

huh??? what guages are best for a turbo car???
if so I would buy THESE : top 3-4 choices
A/F gauge .... not that accurate, but gives an estimate of a lean/rich condition
Boost Gauge - Can tell you how many lbs/boost you are making at a given rpm, and also a warning if boost spikes/creeps.
Oil Pressure Gauge - Good too know how everything down below is working, if your oil pressure guage drops, sometimes you can save your motor if you catch it early enough before spinning a bearing.
EGT Gauge - This is a gauge that is gonna cost some $ but it will tell you by exhaust temperature whether your motor is detonating - pre ignition...

definitely the above 4 gauges for a turbo car. To spend money on a turbo system and have no proper indication that everything is ok is dangerous.
in an all motor car I would get an A/F gauge with wideband o2 sensor and controller (AEM?), oil pressure gauge, and oil temperature gauge.
With the wideband o2 and an accurate A/F readout you can do most of your tuning with a simple vafc (should go to the dyno to adjust timing).

vafc displays look cheap, id rather have a nice set of autometer ultralite in the car, and tilt the gauges so when all is proper all faces up, so 1 simple glance is all you need.

but as B said they do work, and work well, plus you can tune your fueling maps....
personaly I chip my own ecu with whatever custom fuel&timing map i want so no need for pricy vafc or afc...

Yeah, all the gauges aimed so proper function is pointing up. Just a quick glance. My fuel pressure is under the hood like most I assume and my vtec controller is in the glovebox.
Custom tuned fuel maps are great, but the addition of a field or vafc allows room for additional fine tuning and setting vtec points.
If you want to go all out, get coloured LEDs at the top of the windshield that light up when the gauges are out of a certain range.

right now i have volt (rice), a/f, and oil press. After turbo, I want EGT, oil press, oil temp, vacuum/boost and maybe a/f if I have room for it.
vacuum and boost disply on the Blitz turbo timer, so I don't need a dedicated gauge, and a/f displays on the SAFC, so I may or may not keep that one.
