Unequal stock ride height

Hi everyone,

This is my first post. I`ve searched out this forum for an answer to a recent observation I made on my 1998 Civic Si:

I recently purchased 4 Koni reds and had them installed by a well-known performance oriented garage with the OEM springs. A few days after the installation, I noticed that the passenger side appeared to be higher than the driver side. A tape measure confirmed that the ground to wheel well height was 26" on the pass side and 25 1/2 " on the driver's side.

My questions:

1. What could cause the ride height to change after shock installation?

2. Is it normal to have that much difference between the two sides?

I should also mention that I've had the car since new (now only 48,000 km) and it has never been in an accident or been submitted to abuse that could damage the suspension.

try parking on a more level surface? otherwise no one will ever notice. I have the same problem on both cars and the higher side changes depending on where I park.

You should wait a few hundred cliks to do the measuring, since the upper mount and spring need time to re-adjust themselves. Another thing is, if this is in the front, be sure that the shock has dropped all the way inside the fork. At the end of it all, my car's the same way... owned since new, no accidents or anything of the sort, and it sits diagonally higher. I just don't even care in my case cuz it's all properly set up. And I've noticed it with a lot of Civics.

Interesting... So maybe I just never noticed before. Just to clarify; the car was on a level surface, I measured the rear ground to top of the wheel well. I`ve put over a thousand km on it since the install.

Not to worry, I guess, the new shocks are so much better than the OEM, I`m not going to complain.

Thanks for the info.

Its common, even notice it on my civic. From what I have read in the past, it's due to the positioning for the engine . Its more to the drivers side, causing it to be lower.

After 4 years of ownership it took me a change of shocks and this forum to find out it's normal for my Civic to be 1/2" lower on the driver's side!?!

Preludes suffer from the lazy leg syndrome too, if that makes anyone feel better about their civic It had me scratching my head trying to figure it out, after doing suspension work on my buddys Lude... I think its overall a honda thing...engine placement... I bet it doesnt exist on a jdm honda cuz the driver balances the car out...

I'm glad you brought this up. I meant to ask somebody for the longest time....

O.K... Let me get this right: many Hondas are lower on one side than on the other, usually lower on the driver's side? Does anyone else find that a bit strange? Do we have to start a poll?

I certainly don't think of this as a problem, I think of it as Honda's way of giving us the advantage in any race with twisties, be it solo 1 or solo 2. I love Hondas!
