Exhaust Manifold Replacement and Possible Goodwill?

Boostd told me he had his exhaust manifold replaced through some old goodwill program Honda had. I read that dealers still have to partly honour old goodwill programs - does anyone know more about this?

If not, how difficult is it for me to replace the bolt-on exhaust manifold? What specific things, like the O2 sensors, do I have to watch out for or consider?

My mechanic knowledge is limited to changin oil and rotating my tires...

So if you think it's over my head and can help me, I can offer $80 for the job.

get new gaskets first and foremost. get new bolts for the flex-flange (you will need those)

check out this shatty pix0r here:

I had to cut the bolts off. sorry for the pic quality, my cat jumped on my belly as I was taking the pic.

The replacement procedure is easy as rotating your tires... well really, EVERYTHING on a car is as easy as that... remember, it's all just nuts and bolts. Don't let nuts+bolts>you

an exhaust place told me that the O2 sensor gets so rusted in that a replacement would be needed. They said it maybe too stuck or stripped out when they take it off.

So go to someone who won't threaten to break off your O2 sensor. I did and they charged 80 with new OE gaskets.

i'd recommend using a torque wrench and tightning up to whatever specified number
hopefuly no bolts break on you, that would kinda suck

if your missing any of the parts below, they can get pretty pricey, i'd really hope your o2 sencor doesn't break when you try to get it out, they dont always co-operate

manifold and cat are onc piece - 750$ from dealer
gaskets - 25$ ? i dont know
o2 sensor - 250$ from dealer
cat heat sheild - 100$ from dealer
bolts - pennies

I believe the warranty was extended, in terms of mileage. The warranty should be 8 years or 160,000 km. If you fall under this, you should be good to go. Just take it to a dealer. If not, have fun.

I had a crack in my exhaust manifold a few months ago too. The Honda warranty only covers the D16Y7 not the D16Y8 which I believe is the engine in an EX. If your exhaust has the cat downstream under the car, then you're SOL.

I found a used manifold from a '00SI for $40. The install went really easy for my mechanic, but the O2 sensor was seized/rusted real good. It took alot of heat and penetrating fluid before it would come out.

Just remember, when you have to replace the o2 sensor, get OE. The aftermarket ones are crap. Most emissions pieces are that way. I've seen aftermarket pcv valves screw up a computer because of the difference in vacuum.
