ECU Tuners
Hey people... i want to say how this site has been very helpful with my recent build.. i m stuck now on who i want to tune my engine...
Here is a Teaser Break Down...
GSR Block
P&P PR3 Head
Crower Stg 2 Cams
Edyn Hi-comp pistons
Well before this engine was rebuilt the engine was tuned by neetronics..
I m looking for a new tune because it was tuned for obd0 ecu before...
Any suggestions on tuner...
From searching this board the two main tuners that come up are Paul From Neetroncs and Nick From Teknotik
So if you could PM experiences and what not and rough pricing as well... any general comments can be made here...

I'd go with Neetronics. He's a realy nice guy to deal with, knows his stuff inside and out and makes decent power as well. The first time I had Paul tune my car he gave me 176 whp and said thats as far as he'd reccomend cause of my cars tendancy to run hot at the time and said to bring it back when I worked out my cooling issue. I did and the outcome was 213 whp on a stock d series with no bad signs( high egt's etc.). Point being he cares about his craft and knows how to tune cars exceptionally well.

yup.
I went with my buddy to pick up his boosted built b16 crx from splitfire and was talking with paul about what exactly he did in terms of tuning. So we were talking, and he even did a run on the dyno for us. Paul told my buddy that he put a scramble on the chip so that if anyone else trys to tune it all of the values will get scrambled and all of his time tuning will be wasted.
Well i talked with John Cui, the creator of crome (crome is what paul tunes with) and asked if there was a scramble feature on the cromepro or dealer version and sure enough, no such thing exists. So if he lied to us about that, i could only imagine what else he lied about.
Not to mention how incredibly disappointed my buddy was after spending $11K there.

all the tuners here suck even neetronics. i had a huge lean spot 16:1 a/f at 6000-7500rpm and conservative is an understatement. i just tore down at big bore b16 i did that paul tuned and it is wet and black in the chambers and piston tops which says it was way too rich. i have heard that the Tag shop isd real good but i have no first hand experience with them. remember aaron that this is a real race engine and the guy who tunes it should no his stuff...this isnt a bolt-on b16.

so steve you know the best about this engine, i have lowered the compression a bit by using a thicker head gasket... who would u reccommend me going to?? Maybe goto TAG?
also what should i have setup before dyno tuning??
like should i have a wideband o2, gauges? what is reccommended...

the more gauges the better. egt's, oil temp, oil pressure, vacumm, water temp, fuel pressure, most importantly msd knock alert. you cannot have too many gauges. how thick a head gasket did you get? and what bore size?

leave the regulator stock and maybe get a walbro 190lph.
Its really easy to melt forged pistons if too lean and you don't wanna wash the rings out by having it too rich.
So my suggestion is tow it to the dyno before starting it up. Because getting a wideband o2 setup, a burner, datalogging setup and crome/uberdata isn't exactly cost effective, unless you plan on doing the tuning yourself. In which case make sure to keep the revs below 4000pms and don't give it more than 50% throttle. This will really narrow down the area on the fuel map which you need to get solid before heading to the dyno.
But like i said, unless the dyno is really close i would just tow the car there.

ya steve i ordered 2 more rockers, i needed th outers, then i got the headgasket u told me to, which he has to order...
i will probably pick up a fuel pump and most of those gauges...
but for sure iw ill try and get my hands on the knock alert...how much do they go for?

You can tune a stock engine but i wouldn't expect any huge gains. The results wouldn't justify the expense if you ask me.
Changing the cams, rasing the compression, adding a turbo or supercharger are all things that would require getting your car tuned.
