Zeeman, any ideas on who I would go to, to have a low/mild LS motor tuned?

I'd just want to get it running the best it can this year before it goes under the knife next year again

so just to clarify this....i'm going to whtiby dyno too and since my motor just crapped out on me i just put a d15b into my dx. this means i should be sitting at 130hp now right? my chip isn't programmed which i would like to get done so the vtec kicks in. is there somewhere you guys can reccomend i go to get this doen or do i just wait till dyno day and let them take care of all that ish. also, how much would it cost to have them do it. some please set me straight on this pls.

130hp is at the crank. minus about 13% or is it 15% drivetrain loss so you might be at 118whp.

If the shop does tunning then yea, let them chip it for you. I'm guessing your running a p28 ecu? you will probobly have to get it chipped or they will do it. They will give you a baseline of what the motor outputs before they do any work with the fuel maps, af ratio etc...

that would be your biggest mistake. Don't go and find the cheapest place, find the most knowledgable. If you want your engine to last, and make good power don't cheap out.
There are a few good tuning shops around here.
Don't be surprised if you fall way short of 130whp J-SKI. Like mugen_r said thats honda's rating at the crankshaft with a fresh engine. Not after 10 years of abuse.

Thanks zeeman, i'm def not looking for the cheapest place to get thigs done. i just ment the lowest price professionally done place as in do i go to dyno day and let them do it or do i go somewhere locally recommended and let them do it. Now that i just spent $1040 i want it to last for sure.

Anyone can give a rough quote of what Paul charges? And I heard he is an agressive tuner, or am I wrong?
I had my 91 civic with a JDM D15 installed and tuned by Paul. Its all a matter of what you want. Most guys go in there and are trying to pull every last ounce of Horsepower they can, and he'll do it, as safely as he can. I was able to run 122WHP 115ft/lbs out of a sohc vtec with basic bolt ons and no ECU tuning, just replaced it with a ZC ecu which tuned in good numbers. i was running a little too rich, he leaned me out a bit but still kept me on the rich side at WOT. Better rich then lean he says. all in all he may be a little aggressive, But he'll only go as far as you want. Be careful though, his prices do vary, its almost like the more happier you are with the numbers the more he tends to charge. LOL. get a complete price before you start, or may find yourself paying for his monthly electricity bill. Don't let him talk you into any add ons as he will try it when the cars on the dyno to further increase your bill, unless of course you want too. Get to know the guy first, talk to him and tell him what you got, and what your looking for out of your car, and he'll make a solid suggestion to you. keep in mind he's tuned 100's of honda's with every possible configeration you can think of. He knows his ****.

The End

^^^^i agree, paul knows his stuff. Experience is knowledge, and he's done just about everything 40 times over.
But i guess i just don't like people that lie to me and my friends. Or would i recommend a liar to someone to work on their car. Paul is also good at doing work to your car before consulting you.
Again this is just my personal experience. My buddy spent $11K there and paul couldn't even put the interior back together or finish welding the roll cage. And striaght up lied to us about a scramble feature he put on my buddys program (built boosted b16) with crome. No such thing exists. I spoke with the creator of crome. He also took off my buddys BOV knowing he was going to run 25psi, can u say compressor surge?
Anywho, enough about paul.
$300 for a dyno tune is a good price. But thats just WOT tuning.

that poor snail

and Charles.. you'll want more than WOT tuning man. Also check out Nick at Teknotik, he's doing my tuning. Talk to all the tuners you can, get a feel for what they are like and the experience they have with the motor you are building or tuning and go from there

yes, you will definately want more than just WOT tuning. Well if you want your car to have any sort of decent gas mileage and good all around driveability....and be safe, especially if its heavily modded.

I'm getting my motor built as we speak, havent completely decided where to get it tuned yet. But here are 2 of the places I was thinking of going to:

1) Nick and Teknotik, heard he does well tunning with Crome
2) Mark (http://www.allmotorhonda.com/) I hear he is one of the best for N/A applications.

I live in Whitby, are you guys talking about the dyno at Auto Accessorie zone? lol, I didnt think anyone went there.

The engine is stock with your everyday I/H/E bolt-ons. Maybe I should spare myself the trouble and not tune it, or at least wait until I slap on a VTEC head?

if you wanna run it to see what you're making, but i wouldn't expect a whole lot out of tuning your ecu.

Ya, that's what I had in mind initially, just to get a base number. I mean, I think the car runs ok and great, but I have no other cars to compare with.
