Drilled hole into A/C evaporator PLZ HELP
So today was suppose to be a simple install of a audio system into buddy's Honda civic 94 SI.
I accidently drilled into the box in the pic ON THE BACK side.
This pic is of the front side.
I've identified it as the CASE, EVAPORATOR (UPPER) (W/INSULATOR)
The thing is........When I drilled the hole I didn't know i didn't need to. SO STUPID
I ended up drilling into box and about 100 mL of green fluid came out........and then stopped.
I was able to use a type of puddy and plastic and close the hole.
My question......How badly have I screwed up my buddy's A/C system.
I told him I will foot the bill...

it could be a/c dye that came out, start the car and see if coolant pisses out, regardless, whole heater box is goign to have to come out and your going to have to replace eather the evaporator or heatercore.

WEll according to the SERVICE manual the HEATER CORE is really on the OPPOSITE side of the CAR.
From the location i've for sure drilled a hole into this thing.
Apparently the fluid is neon gas (Refrigerant) And by drilling the hole i have accidentally discharged the A/C in a non wanting fashion (bad for environment). As my buddy's mechanic has said. best thing to apparently do is install new one and get a/c recharged.
I will do all the labor myself as I have the service manual and its pretty simple.......If anyone has anymore insight or help or advice please let me know.
My buddy has taken it to a mechanic and said it ain't cheap if he does it. Junkyard its 75 for the evap unit and upper and lower housing..........

WHATS the quickest way of discharcing it at home? My buddy did it in his totalled protege and said its just some **** under the hood on some pipe and said he will do it soon as I get the part from the j unkyard.........its abotu 75 bux for the entire unit with casing if i go and remove it myself.....
But to recharge the A/C I have no clue.

I don't think it cost too much to recharge the system, just give a Honda dealer a call and get an estimate, but if you plan on replacing the heating core, you got a bit of work ahead for yourself. My understanding is you need to remove the dash in order to do so. That is why I am having a hard time selling my a/c and now keeping it.

dude if you look at the service manual and picture i posted the heater core is NO WHERE near the a/c unit..........it goes like this from right to left
blower motor, evap unit, a heater vent, then the heater core.....

Ya I'm pretty sure I won't go to jail or get fined. Mainly beacuse I've discharged most of the a/c refrigerent when I drilled that hole.
All the green freon gas/liquid w/e the hell it out came out with a nice hissing sound meaning its taken out all the pressure...........

not the heater core, u drilled into the evaporator/condenser
IMO,the best way to replace this box is remove the whole dash, if i remember right, u can still replace it without removing the dash, i changed the blower box before and didn't remove the dash, but really hard and painful
btw, i have the evaporator with the box from EG, pm me if u need that
