D15b2 compared to D15b7
#2
i think its pretty much just one is newer than the other. if there are differences, i will bet that they are very subtle, not making much of a difference (like little computer stuff).
someone correct me if im wrong

Ah.. im thinking about just getting a really nice small turbo for the d15b7 in my '93. Ive been reading and people with D15b2's have been having success right up to 11lbs... i was thinking 5 or 6 only.. also Mini-me setups (the ones i looked at were d15b7's with d16z6 tops) have been doing decent on boost. I figured i might go look around some junkyards and find the cheapest way to do a small turbo on my engine. There isnt alot else that would be cheap to add a decent amount of "pep" to it.

Ok here is your answer:
D15b2 is an 8 VALVE, SOHC, non VTEC found in 91 and below DX, CX and 92-95 CX models.
D15b7 is an 16 VALVE, SOHC, non VTEC found in 92-95 DX models.
Power rating are 97 Vs.102 hp, and the powerband of course.
Also, some of the older civics with D15 motor had Carburators, and no EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection)

About the Turbo setup you're after, let me tell you there are many issues involved:
1. Gathering all the necessary parts, in good used condition can
sum up to well around $1000
2. Installation is a major project. Its NOT as easy as it sounds.
Believe me, even though I do my own work ( Suspension
work, regular maintenance, and even my Nitrous setup...) I
found a custome Turbo setup to be a MAJOR project when I
was at it myself..... Plus after you finish, there are going to be
some major RELIABILITY issues to be concerned about.....
My advice is that you better be very sure of what you want and what you wanna do BEFORE you mess with your car. There would be a day, that you wish you had not touched anything !!
So look at it with OPEN eyes before you start any project...
Good Luck, and 5Gens RULE !!!!

Well what kind of costs would be involved in getting a new head installed?
ps.. i had to drop some stuff off this morning and due to snowy conditions, curbed my f*n car.. i was going really damn slow, braked and the whole car drifted sideways into a curb. I hope it didnt damage anything...

Well, I would probably do the work myself for the head. I got a friend with a full garage with engine hoists and stuff. He said he could help me do any work I want and I can use his stuff. So i just need all the parts for it. The problem is, im on the college budget and cannot afford it all too well, maybe once im on winter brake i can save up some money for it (working full time). I need the head, a new ecu? anything else?
