how did I get burned? .. yeah ok some AEM designs do not go through the hole ... but they do end up int he same spot... yes the one for the type R goes down between the rad and the trany and then curves under the subframe support.... which is basically what the other one that goes through the hole is getting too....

anyways like I said the biggest issue with any after market piping is the amount the intake pipe heats up .. if you can keep that cool your set. as for common sense ... loudsubz... you and I both know it;'s something lacking from this world....

yeah it's all good .. some people don't know how to see between a debate and an argument....

anyways... for the most part the theories I posted are correct.... I would however still like to see these dyno charts that compare the different intake tubes.... ahhh helll I'll go look it up myself....

for the sake of debate and controversy, in the spring I will arange for some temperature gauges and we can conduct some test on different setups - half/full rad, cai/sri, etc. It is too cold right now. I went booting around for 30 minutes with the engine never going below 6000rpm (had it up at 10k at one point) and the intake and filter remained cold to the touch. We need warmer weather.

I continued this debate with a friend and it ended up focusing around the tuned length of the pipe, not the hot or cold air. The max power derived from the intake will be dependant on the length and diameter of the pipe. From what I understand the aem v2 cai is engineered to make gains at both mid and high rpm (best of both systems).

Someone bug me about this in a few months and we see where it goes.

length of the pipe is a factor ..... and this sounds like a great Idea... I'll provide the stock civic for the test

Length of intake piping has little effect on power. Pressure waves do not pass much beyond the throttle body, and the speed of the intake air is too slow at this point. If you're looking for power from an intake, playing with the length isn't going to help.
