and so..
my cams arrived last night. I went to check them out. All nice and shiny
Their CAT cams part # 2501605 - Street Cams. I was a little disappointed when I saw that the sizes are almost identical to those of my Type-R cams. So I called up JRP (the Cdn importer of them) and they told me that on a Type-R I'll be getting 13extra HP (probably @ the crank) and a little more torque below 4000rpms.
There's some good and bad to this...
Good:
They are cheap (in return I have to do a writeup about them and provide dyno runs for my speedshop Auto Sin-May (www.sinmay.com))
I don't have to change my valve springs or retainers (they handle just like Type-R cams)
13hp.
My idle will not get fucked up
Bad:
I'd be weary of paying full price for them (roughly 800$ for the pair), but the gains are similar to those of a Type-R (for SiR or GSR owners..yes..go for it!, but for a Type-R owner, they are close to OEM Specs)
Not enough HP (well..there's NEVER ENOUGH HP!..we always want more)
To get the 2nd stage CAMS I would need the full I/H/E (which I have..) but I'd need CAM Gears (which I'm getting), an APEX'I VAFC, port & polish, SKUNK2 intake ...these are more hardcore CAMS.
So in general they are good all around street cams.
PS: I'm getting them installed next week..so the breakin period should be over by the time I get to T.o for Dark Nights!!
I promise some rides to people if I'm not on my winter tires
