cant push piston back to put in pads.

cant push piston back to put in pads.

Hey all, i was checkin and replacing my pads and the piston came out a lil bit and i cannot get it back in so ihave enough room to put the pads in... how do i get it back in ?

do you have channel locks (large pliers)? that or a c-clamp

well..

Pull the cover off your resivoir, and then use some large C vice grips.

You should have pryed it back in with a big flat screwdriver before you pulled the caliper off.

Important detail that many forget, if you do not remove the cover off of your master cylinder reservoir, when you go to compress the piston back in the brake fluid becomes pressurized and the master cylinder reservoir cover will blow off, or even split a line

lol i do it on all the cars i work on, scott didnt do it on that taurus you guys did all the work on and, boom off goes the cap adams flipped thought it was a line since they were so rusted

I found the splashguard fasteners too. I put them in such a stupid place.

Ive been a liscenced mechanic for over 5 years and have NEVER seen this happen, I have NEVER removed the cap for the resevoir when pushing pistons back.

i was never taught to do that nore had it ever happend to me before but one time i was doing it and that happend and i was told by my apprentice instructor that i should remove the master cylinder reservoir cap w/e

at my shop we always take it off.....usually and think dealing with brakes we take the cap off.

well it was a new caliper too and i got it off another ccivic... and i need to push the piston back like half an inch but wont budge i tryed everything.. i turned the ebrake bolt once and it poped out a lil bit more so i stop that.. lol .. its so fustrating..

was this a front or rear caliper?

The rears you have to turn with a big pry bar instead of compressing with a clamp

obviously it was the rears, b/c you mentioned the ebrake.

turn the piston with a big pry bar.
