Hey all, i was checkin and replacing my pads and the piston came out a lil bit and i cannot get it back in so ihave enough room to put the pads in... how do i get it back in ?

szuberi 28-Nov-2006 02:18 PM

you need a c-clamp perhaps

chris_si98 28-Nov-2006 02:20 PM

lol

do you have channel locks (large pliers)? that or a c-clamp

Cynikal.Mindset 28-Nov-2006 02:29 PM

or what I had to ghetto rig to do brakes....spring compressor hahaha

WayFastWhitie 28-Nov-2006 04:30 PM

well..

Pull the cover off your resivoir, and then use some large C vice grips.

You should have pryed it back in with a big flat screwdriver before you pulled the caliper off.

Important detail that many forget, if you do not remove the cover off of your master cylinder reservoir, when you go to compress the piston back in the brake fluid becomes pressurized and the master cylinder reservoir cover will blow off, or even split a line

Ive been a liscenced mechanic for over 5 years and have NEVER seen this happen, I have NEVER removed the cap for the resevoir when pushing pistons back.

i was never taught to do that nore had it ever happend to me before but one time i was doing it and that happend and i was told by my apprentice instructor that i should remove the master cylinder reservoir cap w/e

imported_jonny_emo 28-Nov-2006 05:16 PM

at my shop we always take it off.....usually and think dealing with brakes we take the cap off.

imported_jurjames 28-Nov-2006 05:38 PM

well it was a new caliper too and i got it off another ccivic... and i need to push the piston back like half an inch but wont budge i tryed everything.. i turned the ebrake bolt once and it poped out a lil bit more so i stop that.. lol .. its so fustrating..

chris_si98 28-Nov-2006 05:48 PM

excatly what did you try?

zeeman 28-Nov-2006 06:01 PM

was this a front or rear caliper?

The rears you have to turn with a big pry bar instead of compressing with a clamp

zeeman 28-Nov-2006 06:03 PM

obviously it was the rears, b/c you mentioned the ebrake.

turn the piston with a big pry bar.

imported_Joe_98Si 28-Nov-2006 06:14 PM

good observation zeeman, didnt pick up on that
