Calculating gas mileage

Calculating gas mileage
For the past week I have been keeping track of gas mileage. Car is a 2000 Civic Si Coupe(d16y8) completely stock.
I filled up on 8th and reset my trip odometer. Drove up north for the weekend and when I got back in to Toronto I filled up again(33.9L) did about 404km, reseting the trip odometer after filling up. Today I decided to get some gas since it was cheap in my area, I did about 198.4km and I had to put in 19.263L.
So if my calculations are correct
First Trip
404km/100 = 4.04
33.9L/4.04 = 8.215L per 100 Kilometers
Second trip
198.4/100 = 1.984
19.263/1.984 = 9.709L per 100 Kilometers
Now im sure these numbers arent right, for a stock D16 I think I should be in the high 7 low 8 liters per 100km. Im guessing my tank is about 35 liters big. If im wrong please let me know, maybe my math is incorrect. I was hoping to get about 500k+ for each tank.

Whats your driving style like? Last tuneup? What was done?

actually his gas mileage is GOOD.
404 KM on 33.9 Litres... Unless he was driving a crapbox CX I would say he's getting good mileage.
Hence, his guage is showing almost E when infact it's not. Most EKs don't see more than 500KM to the tank. (assuming regular driving conditions and style)

Id say its a bit on the high side but that it really depends how he is driving.... i get about 5.75-6.0 L/100km pure highway driving and about 6.5L/100km mixed driving.

non-spirited driving... i can get about 13km/L 70% highway driving on my GSR motor...
and for my 96 si back then, i can get about 15-16km/L on 50/50 driving
now on my lude.... ****!!! i'm only getting like 10-11km/L on 60/40 (highway/city) with a/c turned on, on some occasion...
i can obviously sense, bigger engine, bigger fuel consumption

i think 9.5L/100km is not good mileage on a d-series hahaha...
this is what i get based on the different motors/cars i've driven:
*note: all are based on non-spirited driving and shift between 3000-3500km and cruise at about 110km/hr
15km/L is about 6.7L/100km (96 civic si with d16y8 - 50 city/50 hwy - and no a/c ever turned on)
13km/L is about 7.7L/100km (96 civic si with b18c1 - 70 city/30 hwy - and no a/c ever turned on)
11km/L is about 9.1L/100km (98 lude SH with h22a - 40 city/60 hwy - and 60% time a/c turned on)
even my prelude with ATTS has better mileage than his d-series...

I agree with T.DOT .. for a D-series those numbers aren't too great. My EK stock (D-Series) would get atleast 550-600km a tank. I get similar numbers with my b16a in my EK as you do and your running a D Series.

ya those are pretty high... i get the same numbers driving conservativley on the k24....
usually i'm closer to 10 but that's with spirited driving... on the hwy i can get down close to or under 7L/100k...

9 is very poor for a d16 imo.
I got 6.7L/100km or approximately 37mpg on my last fill up on my b16.
I've gone 645km's on a full tank once without the fule light coming on....was averaging about 36-37mpg on that tank too....
All depends how you drive, I drive like a grandma, so I get good mileage. Anotherthing to concider is, if you drive at constant speeds. If you always speeding up/slowing down, that will eat up the gas. Also if you drive and maintain say 130kph and you accelerate nicely you can get better fuel mileage than if you drive 100kph but accelerate like a madman all the time....
Driving habbits have a large effect on fuel mileage......I've learned this the hard way...lol.

Do a tune up if it's over-due, that will really help. Make sure your air filter is clean. And drive easy.
