i got most of it out today... i have a question though... there is a bracet that the A/C compressor bolts to... and this bracet in turn bolts to the block...

refer to the pic... and the terms used... the red line shows how it goes together... so is this engine mount bracet nessessary to be on the car?? the bushing that is in there isn't a solid rubber bushing but it just kinda has wavey rubber pieces connecting the center sleeve and the outter part... so i mean i can't see if doing all that much with respect to engine movement...

anyone know what i'm talking about or did that not make any sense??

btw with just the compressor, rad and the engine mount bracet thing i'm at just under 30 lbs in weight savings... that doesn't include all the tubing or all that stuff under the dash... might be closer to 40-50 all said and done

yes beeyatch, that's a torque mount to prevent excessive for-aft (front to back) movement and you do need it

are you serious? well i could put it back on easily enough... but the bushing that was on that like i could move it with my hand.... could it really do "that" much?

YEEEEESS! you can do without it, but when you're bangin gears the motor really torques up and puts a wierd angle on the axles and also puts more stress on the rest of it. Look to Parkway to order a new bushing insert if yours is all busted and weak.

well its not so much "busted" as it is weak... so would a new one be like stiff to the point my hand wouldn't be able to move it? if yes then i understand why its needed... but as of now it just looks like 7 lbs of metal....

7 lbs of metal that Honda would not have engineered into place if they didn't need it. Have you ever seen a part on a Honda that you though "WTF, this has no purpose"... didn't think so! Everything on a Honda is carefully optimized to be light, strong, durable, and inexpensive. And if you do think "WTF, this has no purpose", it's only cuz you don't have a degree in Mech Eng.

I once removed the plate that covers the area for the second radiator, thinking WTF?? the more air I get into the engine bay the cooler the underhood temps will be. Later I found out that air takes the path of least resistance (DUH!) so by removing the blockoff plate I was giving the air a path to go through and NOT through the rad... I basically rendered my radiator useless! Anyways, just a story I thought I'd share about removing engineered parts from a Honda.

Good advice Bruno, I think a lot of people pull stuff off their cars assumming its not needed, but when really its an integral part of their car lol, like if it was designed to be there, it serves some purpose.

so what your saying is that with no a/c rad in there my radiator will not work? i understand the air would want to flow around through the opening but it would still at least hit the rad maybe its time to get a huge *** one like the 4th gens have hahaha


the reason i was asking is cause i didn't know if cars without a/c had that bracet kinda thing.... clearly they do.... i'll talk to brett though... gotta get a ball joint anyways from him

yeah, effectively if that space is open, you will have LESS airflow through your rad and your fan will turn on hella more.

dont the non a/c civics have some plastic piece that goes in place of the a/c rad? i could probably make up something to do that easily enough

everything is out aside from the condenser under the dash... and the pipe pieces that go out of that.... haven't been motivated to play on the car today.... to nice a day i've just been relaxin...
